Advice needed, Homeless moving in, increase in crime
« on: July 18, 2015, 07:39:02 PM »
Hello everyone,

I was looking to advice from you fine folks. Where I live(on Oahu) I noticed homeless folks living in their vehicles on home association property. I contacted the home association and they said to call HPD, I called HPD and the folks are still there. Normally I would not bother but my wife is 8months pregnant and multiple folks(including myself) had property stollen. The parking is on the side of the street but like I said the association owns the parking. What should I do, also what are the laws concerning this. I got to see the guy one time and he seemed high (meth maybe) last thing I need is this dude breaking into my home with my wife being pregnant and all. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

tell the homeowners association you are documenting all your calls and letters to them
and that it will be their liability if it is later proven that any harm is done to your property or family by these individuals
hopefully, they will see the benefit to policing their parking areas better

Does the HOA have a towing contract? Does the vehicle move or is it mostly stationary 24-48 hours at a time? You could try this http://www3.honolulu.gov/csdavcomplaints/

As the homeless get pushed out of the commercial areas, I expect some to start going to the residential areas especially those without homeowners associations.   Main thing is secure your hose bibs/any outdoor faucets by removing handles or be creative and make like a lockout/tagout metal box with lock to prevent operating the faucet.   Above all elevate the problem to your elected officials and the news.  Too bad homeowners can't pass the cost of alarm and security cams to government if they fail to help.
