All I know is, it passed. Now we play the waiting game.

Awesome, and unfortunately I wasn't able to take time off of work today to partake in the festivities.  However I'm curious if someone can break this down Barney style for me as to what was exactly got accomplished today and what is needed to happen next, etc....  Excuse my lack of understanding the thorough process and legal matters that is encompassing this whole ordeal.

I'm far from an expert, but I was asking Funtimes some of the same questions on the facebook page.  As I understand it, the resolution isn't binding, which is unfortunate, because now the mayor will be the next hurdle.  In any event, the city hasn't taken over the land yet, but apparently once it does a non-profit like HDF or HRA or some other outfit can get started planning and doing up the range.  I'm told the very first thing that will likely happen will be renovation of the pistol range, since there'll be much less red tape for pistols than for rifles as far as stray bullets go.  I guess the first big question is whether it'll be indoor or outdoor; my vote is personally for outdoor.

That's about all I know; it isn't much, and is probably subject to change pending someone weighing in who knows more than I do, but hopefully that'll tide you over until they get here.

i would assume it would be outdoor, just because itʻs an old navy firing range which is now overgrown.  If you ever drove through barbers point, chances are you drove right pass the entrance without even knowing it.

There is going to be a lot of QQ on indoor / outdoor.  We will have to wait and see. Personally, I have scoped out the costs of indoor ranges and it would cost around 40k a lane for purchase + operating expenses.  Outdoor is really easy to setup and control, and would be a great start.

Councilman Berg thinks indoor is the way to go; he's concerned about HASECO raising a stink because their housing developments would be within earshot of the range.  I don't know what the rules and regulations are, it seems like an outdoor range would be cheaper both to build and to maintain, but I guess it would face more opposition than an indoor range.  What I'm wondering about is the private venture, worth the cost thing that Berg talks about.  We already have a number of private indoor ranges, and I don't think their high cost is due to a lack of competition, is it?  I suppose if it were run by a non-profit organization or something it might work better than a strictly business venture.  Personally, I don't really like government funding of things, but I'd advocate government funds for public shooting ranges way before golf courses, or swimming pools, or dog parks.  Nobody's ever had a negligent discharge of a golf club due to a lack of training!

Land and space is always a big factor. There are already ranges in the area, so I don't know. Once it's approved as a range.... we can start from there.  It will have to be a partnership between multiple entities. One of them will have to be a charitable association, otherwise it will be hard to get the $$$.
