Gasp :( :o :grrr:

These are assets purchased with tax payer funds, and now half a million dollars is being tossed in the furnace.

I'm so glad our Mayor and other government employees put public safety concerns over fiscal responsibility.  Who knows how many people would die if these guns "wound up on the streets!"

Sometimes you have to wonder in any adults are running our state!

What a waste of money.  At the very least try and get some money back by selling these weapons.

It will end up in criminals' hands...somehow...but that's what Keith Kaneshiro said awhile back on the PBS debate.

Yeah, we paid for them. They belong to us.
Also, hpd won't even sell them to the officers.
200 of them are BNIB.

Gun owners supported Caldwell in the election. Everyone should send him a message about how insulting it was to insinuate that selling those surplus guns to law-abiding citizens, vetted through one of the most strict and controlled handgun acquisition process in the nation, would result in them "ending up on the street" being used in criminal activity.

Here's the Mayor's website address: https://www.honolulu.gov/mayor/contactthemayor.html

Could someone explain to me how ALL of these weapons will end up in the hands of criminals?

good idea
I just sent this message:

RE: Destruction of a HALF MILLION dollars worth of taxpayer funded property is ludicrous. Specifically, I am referring to the destruction of the old HPD service pistols. Some of which are brand new and never used. As I understand it, they won't even be sold to HPD or law enforcement officers. Those old pistols are very safe and valuable well crafted all-steel pistols, not some cheap plastic thing like the current Glock replacements. I strongly urge you to consider the ramifications of destroying a half million dollars worth of publicly funded property.

bottom line is they are wasting $500k

what if they throw away all the used patrol cars?
better not sell it and have some drunk get behind the wheel and kill somebody.
what if a GM for a car dealership threw away all their used cars?
he'd be fired!

looks like consensus, overwhelmingly, is that HPD is wasting money.
not so much pro-gun, as there is pro-save-money.
nearly every comment is that it's a waste of money.
