The image is false, the text is true.

If you read the SNOPES explanation, the text is incorporated in the picture.  The only false part is the specifics assigned to the rules.  However, even though Alinsky didn't uses these examples, it doesn't make them inaccurate.

I think you could absolutely make the case that some of the things that make this country great are socialist type programs. Public education, emergency services, certain forms of welfare, etc. Not saying every program is good and not saying that more would be better but I certainly think that we would be worse off as a whole without certain socialist elements. Imagine if you will a private army instead of a government one.

Unfortunately, America already has private armies in the form of paid contractors, that take their orders from the government, who in turn get their global directives from the capitalist banking elites.

What's wrong with paid contractors?

Aren't the military members "paid", too?  I distinctly remember receiving a paycheck twice a month .... before becoming a "paid" contractor!

Sorry, I should have clarified, the text you posted below the image is correctly attributed to him, what is written in the image is not. I would not say that the things mentioned in the graphic are universally true either. Take gun control for example, cannot one be socialist and pro gun rights at the same time?

That's a ridiculous argument.  The over 18 illegal border jumpers are leaving <fill in the foreign county name here>, their family, friends, any jobs or businesses they have, and coming to a country that is likely completely different, where the majority doesn't speak their language, and living in a culture that is totally unknown to them.

If their parents can uproot themselves to come here, we can uproot their kids and send them back.

Those you mentioned are leaving by choice and probably because of a worse situation. The ones I am talking about are ones who had no choice and don't want to go back. They did not knowingly break the law. Sending them back to a country where they may have no support system and may not even speak the language is not a punishment that fits the crime. Punishment should be proportional to the level of wrong they did.

During the Elian Gonzalez incident, do you think they were right to send the boy back to Cuba? I ask because this incident became political and a number of republicans wanted citizenship for the boy.

The problem with the use of paid military contractors lies with questions of accountability.  For example, in combat situations, where both the regular armed forces are along side contractors, how does the chain of command work?  Are the rules of engagement and those that govern war the same for both the armed forces and the contractors?  And finally, are all military contractors predisposed to defend the US Constitution, knowing full well that military contractors can come from any nation?

Yes, as I alluded in an earlier post in this thread, any nation can theoretically align with any of the political or economic ideologies and be pro/anti gun.  In the US, we have many in the general population who are anti-gun, despite being a quasi-capitalist nation.  Japan is another example; that country is another predominately capitalist nation that has outright banned guns from its population.

The decision to allow people to own firearms is not an ideological, but purely a political one.

You're twisting the context from "How to" to "individual beliefs".

It does not matter whether it's by choice or by force.  Either way, the illegals we deport will be able to assimilate and survive, especially if they still have relatives living in their country of citizenship.

Maybe their government will be nice enough to offer financial assistance for their settling in?  You know, the same way the US offers assistance for all necessities to the illegals living here.

That's your opinion.  I think the ONLY "punishment" is to deport them.  Anything else is rewarding their or their parents' criminal act of jumping the border.

That was a custody dispute.  The mother drowned, the father in Cuba wanted him returned, and the Miami relatives wanted him to stay.  He could have gotten a humanitarian visa to stay, but the law was on the side of the father.

Since this is a discussion on Democratic Socialism and NOT immigration, I'll leave it at that.

I am not twisting anything, you posted an image that falsely attributes a list of steps to a famous socialist activist. The things in the list are not necessarily a requirement to be socialist. The list is bogus, a scare tactic. A socialist system may be built using those ideas but they can exist without those ideas as well.

And if they cannot assimilate and survive? Ok, bottom line for me is that I will vote not to deport those types of people. The punishment doesn't fit the crime.

Howard Stern, as with anyone else, has a right to believe, vote, and/or take office for any ideology he or she believes.  No where in the US Constitution did it say you had to believe in any system of government or economic ideology.  Hence, even if people where to believe that the Democratic Party are secretly conspiring to transform the US into a quasi-communist state, there is nothing in the US Constitution that says they can't try, so as long as they do not abrogate the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

For those that are worried of the possibility of the subversion of the US into becoming the next communist state should clearly study the history of the rise of communist states since the 20th Century.  The most famous of them (i.e., Russia, China, Cuba, Vietnam, North Korea, etc.) all adopted their own respective forms of communism via revolution and/or civil war.  None of the above mentioned were peacefully subverted, especially during a time when access to information was next to nil for the vastly uneducated masses of those nations.

Consequently, the constant talk of any type of socialist and/or communist take over is merely propaganda for the masses in the US to fear any attempt of progressive economic changes in government policy.  Remember, the Nazi's used the fear of communist take-over to solidify their hold on power in Germany.  Ironically similar, it is the financial capitalist banking elites who want everyone questioning each other who is the socialist/communist subvert, while continuing the status quo of robbing everyone of their money via Wall Street and through the government contracts awarded to them from their paid Republican and Democrat stooges in power.

Think about  that...

We do it all the time.   Parent loses job due to gambling or some other addiction, family can't pay rent, family is homeless.  I see that being just as much a punishment for the kids in the family as for the person who "sinned."

Just read Armstrong's proposal.  Very intelligent man indeed, but after perusing his paper, he seems to be framing the potential economic fall of the US via "cycles."  Similar to Wall Street commentator Peter Schiff, he also places a lot of blame for the current dilemma at the doorstep of the government for its failure to take control of the situation due to its internal corruption.

All valid points.

However, Armstrong like Schiff fails to make the connection of the root of all of the nation's economic troubles originating from the financial banking elite.  Yes, the government has to take responsibility for the economic ills of their country, but in America's case, it is the financial banking elite, who are manipulating Wall Street as well as are the main financial backers of those who comprise the government.  Furthermore, Armstrong does not, at least from my view, mention the Federal Reserve Bank, a private corporation, taking any responsibility for America's wild economic swings.  He mentions many trivial historical events, but never mentions the actions of the Fed as a possible factor influencing these economic cyclical changes.

In summary, Armstrong relies too much on academic reasons to explain the current economic situation and very little common sense.  He goes on to reaffirm that Adam Smith was correct in that "greed is good for the economy", while ignoring the research of fellow Princeton mathematics faculty member and Nobel Prize winner in Economic Science, John Nash, Jr., who was able to prove mathematically that capitalism works against society.

Interesting read, but should not be taken too seriously.

Now that's a little confusing as Peter Schiff has constantly railed against the (not) Federal Reserve for as long as I can remember.  Just like Ron Paul.  These threads make my head hurt but not as bad as the Chinese woman who just dug up her stacks of RMB for son's wedding but only got piles of mud.
