How did you come up with your forum name?
« on: October 01, 2011, 07:38:30 AM »
There are some very interesting screen names on this forum.

It makes me wonder how everyone came up with them.

So, how did you come up with your screen name?

And What does it mean?

My first choice was "Kingkeoni" than my second choice was "BananaClip", after the beloved 30rd AK47 magazine... I heard the term somewhere that I can't remember....

I just chose a random number, a random letter, and followed it by a random State :)

I was/am in a car/bike/hotrod club called HEAVIES. Been using the name for years.

After getting married, house, career, I don't have much time, or cash, for cars/motorcycles anymore. So my gun hobby is what keeps me sane.

Ok I'll try my best to explain (I hope it makes sense):

My family on Guam is known as the "Carabao" (Water Buffalo) family.  The term "Carabao" was given to my Great Great Grandfather by the Filipinos.  Basically my Great Great Grandfather had a lazy water buffalo, it would stop pulling the plow, cart/wagon or cease pulling whatever load simply because it just gave up.  So my Great Great Grandfather wound up pulling whatever load to get the job done.  So as the Filipinos on Guam would see my Great Great Grandfather in the village they would always see him pulling a cart/wagon so hence the name "Carabao".

Fast forward to 1995 when I first joined the Marine Corps, I told some Marines in my shop the story of my Great Great Grandfather and those on the receiving end just so happened to be of Filipino decent.  They decided that I'd be referred to as "Ox".  Now the name has stuck, and it's easier for people to remember "Ox" rather than my real name "Bryan".

As for "Maj" (Major) it is the military equivalent should I be replaced with a Military Commissioned Officer at my current job.  On other boards I go as "Sgt_Ox" because it was the rank I left the Marine Corps as.  I got tired of having the same SN on all the other boards.

When I first got on a gun board and joined packing dot org (now defunct) I wasn't prepared with a clever pseudonym. There happened to be a box of .45 hardball on my coffee table.

Thus:

FMJ

Or something like that, but I was tired and hungry.

Unimaginative, confusing, but I'm stuck with it now and I use it on all the gun boards I frequent.

I can think of some other things that occasionally appear on my coffeee table which would have been an embarrassing "handle" if they had been there at the time.

vooduchikn (Voodu - Chicken) Sometimes pronounced Voo-dush-kin by those not in the know.

In 1993 our soccer team made it to the finals in our local Navy intramural league. We were playing an unbeaten team that had a skill level way above ours. They were rough, mean, and downright un-sportsman like...right down to the coach. We figured we would give it our best, as everyone else had done and we were down 2 points at the half and down a player on the field due to a red card.

At the half we decided we would not go out without a fight and we took it to them in the second half. The game was tied 6-6 by the dying seconds of the game, a shoot out was obvious. I saw the ref had his whistle in his mouth and was checking his watch. Our fullback took the goal kick for our keeper (who ended up having 2 broken fingers as we found out later..he had been stepped on) and the ball made it to me just on the other side of the other teams half. It bounced one time and I took it on the half-volley with my right foot (I'm a lefty) and caught it just perfect. It hovered above the dirt about 1 foot above the ground for 35 yards. The ball was screaming and wasn't spinning..it was just still, but traveling through the air at an insane pace. It went right past the keeper who just stood there with a dumbfounded look on his face. I have never been able to duplicate that shot or technique since.

The final score was 7-6 us.

The other teams coach came across the field screaming, yelling, and cussing demanding to know what "Black magic witchcraft worshiping Voodoo Chicken god" we had prayed to during half time that allowed us to wreck his perfect season"

Next season most of us returned and when I got my jersey with my number, it had Vooduchikn instead of my name on it. It kinda stuck and I have hung on to it since. I had the name on my jersey up until last year when I had to stop playing at age 36 due to injury. I still use it on Xbox and other forums.

And yes, we smoked them again the following season.
Relax, I've banned myself..

There are 6 letters in my first name and 7 in my last.  It's also the jersey number I had when I played football in high school.  As for the front part, I'm NOT a morning person, and you never want to get on my bad side........I'm renown for my grudge list.
