You can sign up for alerts from the police and other agencies and they will send text messages to your phone when there is a road closure, tsunami watch, or other emergency event happening. It's already helped me avoid a couple of traffic jams.

A red flag warning just went up for the west side a few minutes ago. Time to not smoke 'em if you got em!

Alert: Red Flag Warning issued for all Hawaiian Islands until 6PM Tuesday. Increased leeward wild fire potential exists.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for the leeward sections of all Hawaiian Islands until 6PM Tuesday afternoon.

A Red Flag warning means that persistent dry conditions coupled with an increase in trade winds will pose an increased threat for wildfires especially over leeward areas.

A Red Flag Warning also means that critical fire conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A Red Flag Warning does not predict new fire starts.

Residents are advised to avoid activities that promote open flames or sparks.

Report all wildfires immediately by calling 9-1-1.

It works.  It would work better if I get it on my phone instead of my email.

I have it set to text me instantly to my phone as well as emails.

If there's a tsunami warning, I wanna know instantly since i don't check my email more than a couple times a day

I'm the other way around.  I check my email more often than my phone....plus I'm a cheapskate and don't have unlimited text plan.  ;D
