I'm in the market for a new queen sized mattress.  From what I've read I wouldn't mind the comfort level provided by a latex or foam or combo mattress, been sleeping on coils my whole life. 

SPECIFICALLY, Anyone here have a foam or latex mattress who can speak on HEAT RETENTION in Hawaii? 
My coil mattress gets hot and uncomfortable as it is in my NO-AC-HAVING house...
I would imagine heat retention on a foam or latex mattress would be no problem in a refrigerated home...


Currently scoping the Lucid 10 memory foam queen for $400 or the Tuft and Needle  memory foam for $600.

The coil mattress is always an option, as I already know what to expect. 

I have this in Cal King, from Costco.  I waited for it to be on sale.  Saved several hundred $$, and they have more in-store than usual.

They have many varieties of thickness, firmness, and layers.  The Comfort Grande is what was on sale.

I also have this gel topper for a thicker gel layer.  Cooler temperature, and adds more softness.  You can usually find these on sale at the same time as the mattress:

If you want to try the topper, they will let you return it if you like.  Same for the mattress.

The topper does increase the depth of the mattress, so your sheets have to be the extra deep corner type.

My daughter this mattress and topper combo for a couple of years, and when my mattress needed replacing, I went with the same.  Very happy with it.

Just buy the one I mentioned above and buy a mattress pad; problem solved.

I've been sleeping on the exact same mattress all week and it is heavenly.

You might get a hit or miss with regards to the firmness. It's listed at 4lb memory foam, but you might get varying degrees of firmness; mines feels like maybe a 3, which is a little bit soft to my liking but still very comfortable.

For the price, you really can't beat it.

I saved my box spring because I wanted to save money.

My wife and I or should I say my wife recently bought a bed from slumber world.she picked out a $4000.queen bed(foam with cooling gel I don't know)I would have been happy with a futon.I was mad for a little while, but sleeping on it for a couple days,i realized it was as comfortable as hell..from spring to foam..hhuuggee difference.

I bought locally while it was on special.  Costco has good discounts when those are on sale. 

The gel layers really do dissipate body heat.

I have a 4-drawer storage platform with no box spring.  If you have a normal bed frame, you need to use a good box spring foundation, or a piece of plywood.  Any solid foundation works fine.

Pad and topper.

Get a good quality pad with a stain warranty.  It'll be worth the extra cash when someone or a pet has an accident and the stain doesn't make it through below the pad.  Those can be found on Amazon and mattress stores. 

The topper is the additional gel pad from Costco.

The stain-resistant mattress pad doesn't really affect the cooling much.  The gel topper does dissipate heat very well.

Bro if you don't have AC don't get a foam mattress.  Supposedly the new tops help out, but I basically only sleep on my bed when it's cold out.

I wake up at 5:30am for work.  Two mornings ago, when it was hot and humid AF (it has since cooled down), I woke up in sweat and there was a sweat angel imprinted on my bed sheet, it looked like my neck had pissed itself.

Well supposedly if you have a good quality foam mattress it should last two to three times longer than a coil mattress.  You also should not have issues with compression of the springs in certain spots or have to flip it.......but yeah the sweat angel.......

I recommend you start out small if you are afraid the gel layers won't keep you cool enough.

Get a 3"-4" gel topper and put on your current mattress.  See if the heat it holds is too much.  If it is, you can take it back for a refund.

If you like it, get the mattress with the same gel layer on top.  Try the new mattress with and without the extra topper.  If you decide you want more firmness without the topper, again you can return it.

The gel topper is MADE to dissipate heat.  However, it adds a little more softness to the mattress.  I think the mattress plus the topper gives me the perfect firmness and increases the heat dissipation.

must be nice and cool in nalo, what is it like on that side when the trades cease and we get kona winds?   in salt lake its hot AF when we get kona winds...

My understanding is the memory foam mattresses get much hotter than the latex variety. I had a latex mattress in Oregon and LOVED it. I'm a hot sleeper so picked it over the memory foam. Also look at the sheets...I hear bamboo sheets are the coolest temp wise. Costco occasionally has road shows for them.
