I feel like I could care less only because this is the same County that helped remove the Superferry from the State.  Call me whatever negative derogatory but your actions have consequences whether you know it or not.  In this case, it was damn obvious so go and stew in your own mess.

I know what you mean. I was walking out of the break room at work the other day and someone offered me spicy ahi poke, but I said I was good. I immediately regretted my decision but I was too ashamed to go back and get some.

Yep Kauai helped to shut down the superferry which would have helped interisland travel.   I know lot of local Kauai people wanted the ferry but they let the minority win.
 If another Iniki or Iwa hit Kauai, the superferry would have have been invaluable to bring supplies and personnel to aid recovery.   Sounds like Hawaii wants another superferry but only if backed by Democrats and called the progressiveferry  or rainbowferry.

I was living on the Big Island when they were preparing the docking at Kawaihae and making test runs to Maui. I was looking forward to being one of the first. Very disappointed in that decision.

Was approaching my retirement time for moving to the BI and looking forward to moving cats, guns and all important stuff on the SF from Oahu.  Might have been a long cruise, but big deal.

We did manage to do a Oahu to Maui trip once, and other than getting to the Honolulu dock at 0-dark-30, it was great.  They ran a tight ship, very, very conscientious about foriegn crap under the car and inside.

I know the Kauai idiots on surfboards and kayaks got all the publicity, but as I recall the Maui influence from the Sierra Club chapter there and other well funded Maui groups really did the damage.  I have spared no effort to influence mainland friends to vacation on other islands, and we continue to boycott Maui.

The SF was the perfect solution for taking short (Weekend) vacations. Plus since there are items I want that are not available on the BI and were available on Maui it would have been nice to be able some of those items home with me. I WAS a big fan of the SF.

That was my impression from Oahu: just a small vocal group floating around.  From the pics i saw of them, all hippie looking loafers, mostly white dudes.

Always seemed like the big $$$ and organization trying to stop the SF was coming  from Maui, hence my animosity.

 

I went to Kauai a few years back for a weekend trip.  Girlfriend and I thought we saved money where we could by finding a vrbo type place.  Even with the car rental, airfare, food and hotel we spent close to a grand. 

I think it's ridiculous to have to spend that much when it's not really that far away.

I still have dreams about loading up the 4wd with surfboards (save $45 alone), camp gear, a cooler, and food.....taking the ferry for an INEXPENSIVE weekend getaway. 

 

Suoerferry was one of the best things that came to our islands. It was a crime / disservice against the people of Hawaii that special interests forced them to shut down.
