Any know what import markings mean ?

I have. Smith and Wesson model 10 with import markings:
AA 280 and
JP1712

What does that mean ?

I am guessing here. The marks are usually the importer's mark and possibly the country's proof mark. But again this is only a guess.

When the revolver was sent to the country that purchased them, most countries (But not all) proof mark them. Especially if they were for military and/or police use. And another mark is probably the mark of the  importer who brought it back from that country.

Just my guess however.
