Gun safe recomendations?

 Howzit guys can anyone make a recomendation for a decent gun safe? Been looking to upgrade from the flimsy cabinet im using now.  Right now ive got 2 rifles, a shotgun and 4 handguns.  Budget is at about a thousand. Also which type of lock do you guys prefer, dial or electronic?

$1000! That's really good even if you pick up double the amount of firearms... You can get a nice one with $1000... Shoot, I'm not the one even looking for a safe and I'm all excited.... :rofl: Right on, hope you find an awesome safe... :shaka:

Centurion gun safe is not bad. Lowes sales them, it's what I got. Two rifles and seven handguns and room for more. Here's the link:

Lowes sells 2 sizes, and the largest one is still too small.  Your best bet is to wait till Sports Authority has their 25%off coupons, which comes around 4-5 times a year.  Then go get yourself a $1000 safe and save $250.

All I can say is that whatever size safe you think you need, get one twice as big......at least......probably three times..........better make it 4x just to be on the "safe" side.
But seriously, unless you have a good reason not to get a big boy (live up stairs, condo, move alot), get the big boy.

Actually, I'm gonna need one pretty soon too............

i bought the smaller one from lowes just cause it was a "good enough for now" kinda deal....$450.00 and fireproof, canʻt go wrong.  I agree with the other guys though, if you can go big the first time, do it.  Also, i wanted a combo lock instead of a digital one cause digital means batteries and batteries die! :thumbsup:

it does, but combos are slow. I have a combo safe, but I also stash firearms where I can get to them quickly. I put my range guns in the safe and my shooters in my drawer next to my bed.

Don' t rely on a weapon that is sitting in a safe...you won't get to it quick enough.

Check Costco and Sams club. I have an electronic lock, I think I've changed the 9 volt battery twice in ten years. It also warns you when the battery is getting low.

I'm lucky, when discussing gun safes with the wife, she said BIGGER. 

Also, if She shoots and has Her own guns, Plus Jewelry, Wedding album and Whatevers,it is

a Great idea to get Her a BIG gun safe Just for her stuff.  That will keep her out of yours when she

wants any particular gun/jewelry.

Suggest that Both safes have same key and combination.  Not a big deal to have both keyed alike.

About $25 per each, not including key.  Ours are older American Security safes with key to Lock the dial.

Ours were keyed alike by Aloha Key behind VW in Kakaako.

Also suggest having Movers that know what they're doing when moving your new safe.

Check with Single Action Shooters.  One of their guys Moves and Installs(Bolting down to concrete floor) safes.

Understand he moves safes for most of the local shooters.  Very Discreet.  Will Not tel anyone you have a safe.

He can also pick up the safe too from where you bought it.

He has Special equipment to move safe SAFELY into your house and up stairs if necessary.

I like your non electronic lock safe.  I personally don't like having to deal with a battery/power source.

The size recommendation.........definitely.  Your gun collection is like having fish.  The bigger the tank, the bigger the collection..........on the other side, whatever you have is usually too small because you'll use it for jewelry, extra keys/credit cards/check books/etc.

I would check the fire rating on the safe you are purchasing. The higher the fire rating the better chance you have of being able to save the stuff inside in case of a fire.

Price - you usually get what you pay for.  Don't make the mistake of thinking a gun locker is really a safe, even if it has a lock on the front.

Most "Gun Safes" are not actually rated as "safes" but rather "Residential Security cabinets" or RSCs. These often do not have the burgulary ratings that "real safes" have, nor do the fire ratings mean much as they are not usually from an industry standard setting organization such as "UL"

That doesn't mean one of these RSCs aren't any good, you just need to look at what your needs and price range are and then buy the best (and biggest) one you can afford. Of course, if you have a $1000.00 gun collection and don't plan on buying any more (and none of the guns hold sentimental value) it probably doesn't make sence to buy a $5,000.00 safe either.

Unfortunately, this is true. Just bought a 14-gun Stack-on gun safe from Sports Authority yesterday for $499, less a 25% discount using the Family and Friends 25% coupon ($125 discount). I loaded it with four rifles, three of which have scopes, and its already full. Don't know what the manufacturer was using to rate this safe but it certainly doesn't look like it will hold 14 rifles or shotguns. Maybe 8 or 9 at the most; and you'll have to remove most, if not all of them just to get to the ones in the back.

Yeah, the specs are always crazy when it comes to the amount of rifles it can hold....

Usually 3/4 is the most you can put in there with out the rifles touching each other...

Sux, can't remove the scopes cuz they're already zeroed in.... All my "sporting" rifles have rifle socks on them so they don't scratch each other....  ;)
I don't have too much optics on my rifles so the sock fits good... I gotta remove the scope on the SKS all the time though... :(

I am looking for myself a new safe, right now I am mostly decided on a AMSEC SF5924 http://www.amsecusa.com/gun-safes/sf-gun-safes/ for a couple of reasons. 1) Size it is a good size for right now (16 gun cap.) I will still have room. 2) Weight (514 lbs) it will be on a upper floor. 3) Level of security (UL RSC) and fire rating (60 min @ 1200 deg F). 4) Price. 5) US made.

I know that some big boxes some LGS and other lock and safe shops have gun safes, what I want to know is where can I get a quality US made safe on par with or better than the AMSEC safe above. I have looked at the following locations, Home Depot, Lowes, Costco, X-Ring, Security Equipment and Aloha Key, Awards & Gifts. I know there are places that I am missing help me out. Has anybody had a US Made Browning safe or a Fort Knox shipped here?

What do you all think of the safe I have tentatively picked so far? Does anybody have one?

Check out Senetics (by Kmart Iwalei). They carry AMSEC safes and their pricing was pretty good..Also Security Equipment had AMSEC safes in stock last time I went by (about 2 weeks ago)
