Brownells Shipping Takes 3 Weeks
« on: November 23, 2015, 11:29:36 AM »
I have purchased numerous items from Brownell's over the years and I have always been very happy with their service and usually fast shipping. I have never waited much more than a week to receive anything from them. I ordered 3 magazines from them on 11/5 and they shipped them to me on 11/6. It went out UPS and then they transferred it to USPS on 11/10. I have yet to receive my order. So I e-mail Brownell's and they e-mailed USPS and now instead of the 4-7 Business Days to receive my order, I am not going to get it until the 27th. Assuming that they show up on the 27th that turns out it will take 3 weeks to be delivered with a advertised 4-7 working days.

Has anyone else experienced this with their shipping?

Yes. Your experience is similar to mine. I guess if you are not an EDGE member you are second class.

I don't order enough from them to make being an EDGE member worthwhile. They are also not the only retailer on the Internet. It might be time to scratch them off my list.

The recent items I've ordered from them have come in a reasonable time frame,  say 1 week tops; the problem is not Brownelles the problem is UPS.  This shipping company is screwed up and they have done the same to me 3 times in the last 2 months.  This is with other vendors than Brownells.  When I've contacted UPS about this they go to their SOP which is to blame the vendor and USPS.
Try contacting UPS, you'll see. They throw Brownells and USPS under the bus...

I have not a clue how this company stays in business with their terrible customer service, outrageous shipping fees, and blatant disregard for responsibility.   Whenever it is possible I use companies that go directly with USPS.

Contact Brownells and let them know.

I have been in touch via e-mail. Though the e-mails I received have no remorse or apologies as to the package taking 3 weeks to be delivered. I expect nothing less from a company that promises 4-7 business days and it ends up being 3 weeks.

If it was a fluke thing I would say it is the fault of UPS or USPS. The issue I have is that both Brownell's and UPS state it will be 4-7 business days for delivery. If this 3 week thing is fairly normal then I blame Brownell's as they know it is taking this long for people to get their packages and are not being forthright about delivery times. This is exactly the same thing that happened to me with Midway when they started the UPS/USPS delivery service. And I stopped ordering from them for the same reason. So I personally feel that Brownell's knows about the long delivery times and are not doing anything about them.

For me the issue really is that they are trying to save a few dollars. I don't knock them trying to save a few bucks but they are doing it at the expense of having the customer wait unreasonable times. And not being forthright about it. I would not complain if I got free shipping, but I paid for 4-7 business day shipping.

The UPS Surepost deliveries get trucked to California by UPS, then turned over to USPS and put on ship for the slow ride to Hawaii. Make sure you pay extra for shipping if you need something for Christmas, because everything is going to start getting slower for the Holidays.

Cost cutting on the part of UPS, UPS transfers small packages to USPS for final delivery. Normally ground shipping, which in turns transfers to USPS via freight service to Hawaii.

Roger that.  I have told them, and Midway as well, that they would lose my business if they continue on that route.  Hopefully they will change things if enough of us speak up.  A lot of times I think these companies lose sight of the little guys(individual customers), until enough of us stop spending money with them.  By that time it may be too late.

I've been doing more and more shopping for gun parts on Amazon.  Been having good results so far, just check for the feedback scores before ordering, and careful to read the entire descriptions of items to ensure the right part is being ordered.  As a plus, one can use the HDF link..

I have an Edge Membership. I ordered some bullets and brass that were on sale for myself and a friend. Four days after my order was placed I received "box one of three", the heaviest one. Three weeks later I received the other two boxes.

Be good to know what shipping method triggers the slow boat mode from the mainland.  Used to be just avoid Parcel post, but they keep changing terms, so who knows what it is now?

That and the infamous USPS Richmond black hole.  Had stuff vanish there for over a month.  Shipping has to be one of the biggest drawbacks to living Hawaii.

+1 for Amazon!

Their return policy also rocks! They seem to be expanding their selection as well.

I had this happen recently with MidwayUSA and I got 1 package within a week and another package almost 3 weeks later. I made 1 order and there were 2 packages which were shipped out the same time. And yes it was UPS MAIL INNOVATIONS which they give it to USPS for final delivery. Lesson learned pay the shipping or find other sites with better options.

I have Edge ad been pretty lucky with shipping even the free one (USPS priority).  Brownells ships the next day in my experience.  Only thing is the online order will not ship items with batteries to AK/HI but if you call then and request them to take out the battery, they will help out us out.   The person I talked to was unaware they do this but she talked to CS and was told they will ship to AK/HI if you request no battery.
Good thing about Brownells is they have a good return policy but they don't seem to have as wide selection as Midway, IMO.

I liked Brownell's because they usually have a one day turn around on shipping. Which they did in my case. And UPS took 4 days to deliver to USPS. Then USPS took over 2 weeks to deliver to me. I complained and asked certain questions I don't think they want to answer because they stopped replying to my e-mails. If they had stated on their website that shipping to HI can take as long as 3 or more weeks I would have either ordered with that knowledge or moved on to another vendor that sells the exact same items and would have shipped in a week for the same charge. Either way I would not be here knocking Brownell's. But the fact is they don't want to tell you that this new form of shipping can take this long. So I am taking Brownell's off my list of places to spend my money.

Wow, sorry to hear that Inspector.  It sounds like when Amazon sends your free shipping via parcel pool (International Bridge).   That gets me very upset when they can't even send USPS priority for prime members.   That takes almost 3 weeks but then Amazon sits on your order for up to 4-5 days sometimes.  I won't renew Amazon prime.
Are you talking about the free Edge shipping or just regular shipping?   I would get upset too for 3 weeks.

To be honest I get better shipping times with Amazon than I did with this. Also, Amazon does ship 4-7 business days after it ships. The issue is how long it takes for them to actually put the package in the mail stream. But there are other things one needs to know/understand with Amazon. When the product is processed completely by Amazon I found they process fairly quickly and I usually get those items within a week or so. Sometimes less. If it is processed by a seller that offers prime shipping I have seen up to 4-5 days to ship and then 4-7 business days to get to me. If it is a seller that offers free shipping or paid shipping outside of Amazon Prime I had one take 3 weeks to process the book and it only took 4 days to get to me. The only items I have ordered that came shipped slower than first class were books. Everything else has come first class or priority.

The difference for me is this. When you place an order with Amazon they give you a very accurate time frame that you can expect the item to be delivered. And while it is usually 1-2 weeks I have had an order or two (Both books) state almost a month to be delivered. In many cases it comes sooner than later. But at least they tell you an accurate time frame. And they make it very easy for you to cancel the order online and credit your card quickly. I have done this only once. I have never had them take longer to deliver than what is stated. This gives you the choice as to whether it is acceptable to you. But with Brownells and UPS both stated it would be 4-7 business days. Brownell's website and customer service also stated it can take longer than that. But they leave it up to the customer to define what longer is supposed to be. I didn't expect it to be 3 weeks. I just find the practice of leaving these sort of thing open ended sort of deceitful. Especially when they know it can take 3 weeks or longer to be delivered.

I suspect they don't come clean about this because they feel they will lose orders and business. Otherwise, why not be up front and honest about shipping times?

First real problem with Amazon...  Lol.

Quote
Me: Hello, I am trying to order:   http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B007...(See full link)  It will not let me order this item because it say it cannot ship to my address in Ewa Beach, HI 96706. Please advise why this is?

Zehra: Hello, my name is Zehra.  I'm here to help you today. Thank you for the item link.  Let me have this checked for you and I'll try my best to have this resolved . I see that the item is temporarily out of stock.

Me: Yes, it says one can order, and will be shipped when it is restocked. However, when trying to order, it will not allow shipment to Hawaii.

Zehra: Thank you for elaborating the issue. Let me have this checked for you. Thank you for waiting patiently.  I've checked the details and I see that due to some Government and shipping regulations this item isn't eligible to be delivered within Hawaii.   I hope you understand our limitations and policies.

Me: I don't understand that. Hawaii is inside the United States of America last I checked...  It even states that it can be shipped to the 50 United States.  Please re calibrate the shipping, so I can order this item. "Special Shipping Information: Due to federal and international regulations, this product can only be shipped within the 50 states."

Zehra: Let me check this for you.  May I place your chat on hold for 2 mins while I look into this for you? Thank you for staying connected and waiting patiently.  I've checked with my team and I see that  Amazon may be restricted from shipping this item to your country due to government import/export requirements. Your order contains items that are restricted from exportation. This include products such as rifle scopes, gun parts and accessories, night vision equipment, and electronic components. That's the reason we are unable to have the order delivered to you at your address.

Me: My country is the United States, the item is restricted to to countries OUTSIDE the United States.  Hawaii is INSIDE the United States. So what is the problem?

Zehra: I agree with you, however government of United States has implied this law.

Me: So the government of the US says Hawaii is not a part of the United States?

Zehra: I never meant that. I understand that there is a misleading information on the website I'll contact my team and have that changed for you.

Me: So, you will change that it can be shipped to me, or that Hawaii is not a part of the United states?

Zehra: I've never informed you that Hawaii is not a part of United States. I'm trying to inform you that we will not be able to ship this item to your address due to restrictions from Government. The other sellers might be able to send it please check it with other seller available for this item.   http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007GD...(See full link)  I hope we are still connected.

Me: Ok, thanks.  So I have to pay almost $60 more because you can('t) change the policies to something more rational?

Zehra: I'm so sorry, but we can't offer any additional insight or action on this matter.

Me: I see you can not help me.  Will be conveyed.  Thank you.

Zehra: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?

That's longer than I would have dealt with this person.

Halfway into your chat I would have said, "I see you are unable to help me, so there is no reason to continue our discussion.  Please give me your supervisor's name, phone number and email address.  Perhaps he or she can help me."
