...well, I'm one step closer to having a Hawaii hunting license.  I passed the class this weekend, so in 4-6 weeks, I'll have my certificate.  Yippee!!

My Big Island property, or my parents ranch.  Getting to know private landowners / ranchers is a very good thing.

Next thing you're gonna want the secret smoke meat recipe.   

My in-laws live in Texas, and have excellent relationships with several ranchers.  When I'm there, we can hunt to our hearts' content.  Add to that the fact that pigs are considered nuisance animals, and basically exempt from hunting regulations, it's a much different experience than what I anticipate here. 

Time to pull the .30-30 out from the back of the safe and check my zero...

Yep, pests big time in Texas and in Hawaii as we know that.  The good thing about knowing ranchers, farm owners or AG land people here in Hawaii is that there are certain permits granted by the DLNR that these owners may hold which allows for perhaps extended or non restrictive hunting hours and bag limits for any game animal deemed nuisance or damage to crop, livestock or property.  So you just might find the right landowner where in theory they may have a no limit permit on hours or bag limit. 

Oh the smoke meat recipe is free btw.

I have my hunter's permit but have not really used it.

I'll have to pick up a lightweight 30-06 rifle. Otherwise I will have to go Russian style with the Mosin.

If you find a place to go that's public I would be down to go if at all possible.

If not I might have found a spot, just finalizing a few things then need to scope out some spots.  Ive seen pigs around before during non hunting hours but not sure if they learned the system and when to hide.
My idea of hunting this area though is driving around on the road and if I see something then shoot it, due to the sheer size of the area and not having dogs and stuff.  Not sure if anyone else would find that fun.

Private land is the way to go on Oahu, other then talk be prepared for a long hike on public hunting areas.

I don't recall seeing private land exemptions in HRS 134-5 or 134-23.  What I see is "class B felony."  But IANAL and YMMV!

It's also addressed in the Administrative Rules, chapters 122 & 123, but I don't know what force of law those carry vs HRS.

Administrative rules carry the force of law. They are, for all intents and purposes "laws."

Yes rules are the same for private land unless the landowner  has a special permit from the DLNR.
