Long gun registration, mfg. cardboard case
« on: December 12, 2015, 03:07:56 PM »
Question: does the manufacturer's cardboard box/case count as a "gun case" for purposes of HPD registration? Just picked up a Henry .22 Golden boy, wanted to know if I had to spend for a Plano or other soft case.

Quote from: HRS134-24
"Enclosed container" means a rigidly constructed receptacle, or a commercially manufactured gun case, or the equivalent thereof that completely encloses the firearm.

Sounds like a commercially manufactured gun case to me!

yeah,

gun socks or newspaper where enough at the gun shows at NBC . they were offering them with clear tape to the public to cover up purchases.

took home a Mauser at the NBC with butcher paper and tape.
Walked to jack in the box ate lunch and to my car parked at queens st.
No probs, then went to HPD the following day with the pink paper.

Pretty sure Jack in the Crack is not an approved place to keep and carry.

Lawyer says;  going from point A to B, does not require a direct route . Points C and D enroute to point B is within the law.

I know I was arrested for a "place to keep" before. Lawyer made his arguments and all charges where dropped by the detectives and DA.

but,
I did enjoy a free meal and the cold cell with a tear proof blanket. Yeap, I did try to tear them , they won't budge.

You are obviously fabricating this story as a joke, because HRS 134 clearly states where you can transport a firearm to/from, and going to Jacks would have been against the law.

And we all know that no one here breaks the law.

Waikiki is a bad place to carry a gun case. Lots of rookie cops eager to make a big arrest. I think 16-20 officers showed up and the arresting officer was on the beat for less than a year.

know the law ; what and when to say when asked any questions by an LEO.  Anything you say can and will be used AGAIST you. meaning not for you.

I've seen people registering firearms show up with cardboard boxes, gun socks, pillow cases, and trash bags.
The officers behind the glass just shake their heads and laugh when the person leaves.

Lots of people take in the manufacturers cardboard box.
A lot go straight from gun store to HPD.

Saw a guy walk in with a bare-nekkid AR once.  Not even an attempt at having a case.

The officers behind the glass graciously didn't arrest him and even gave him a garbage bag to carry it home in...

No worries OP, I took my last AR in the manufacturer's box. I've seen plenty just casually wrap them in a towel so if you have an actual box, you're doing well.

I have taken a few rifles to register in their cardboard boxes. The best one was my M-N 91/30 still slathered in Soviet cosmoline, I advised the officer that he should glove up.

(Report from girlfriend) Registration all good. Arrived at 8:20am with Henry in box, line 4 deep upon arrival, 6-8 before reaching the window. Out by 9am with 6 ppl still in line.

I'll post these results the main HPD-line thread.
