During the republican debate Ted Cruz gave some statistics on some sort of phone number searching capability. Rubio replied by implying that was classified and he shouldn't have shared that.

That's one of the most ridiculous accusations I have ever seen. Definitely politically motivated because Cruz is in the second spot. How classified is the information if we can search 30% or 100% of the meta data? I wouldn't believe them if they told me only 30% and I would have assumed myself it was 100%. If it turns out this wasn't classified information then there is no issue. We can debate whether such information should have been classified or not of course, but if it turns out that it was classified then the bottom line is that Ted Cruz broke the law. (unless he has authority to decide what classified information to release)

The point I was trying to make is that classified or not, this is such a minor thing I do not see how the release of this information can hurt us in any way. All they are doing right now is searching to see if someone else released the exact same classified information before Cruz did. The DOJ is not investigating and not even considering this a breech of information. The only people concerned with this are those that would benefit to get rid of Cruz as a presidential candidate. Again purely politically motivated.

To put it succinctly it is a non issue.

If you truly believe accidentally speaking information that might be classified is the same as the Secretary of State having a private email server for at least 6 years with classified information on it that affected national security, then you must not have had to deal with classified data.

No, it does not bring his position into question unless you are looking for any amount of mud to sling his way.  Even if the media try to use it, it will not grow legs without more proof he did something wrong.  One candidate saying he may have erred is not a statement of fact.

If his opponents call him hypocrite, all he has to say is, "I would draw comparisons between these accusations against me and Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server to store classified data, but that would be inappropriate while she is still the subject of an FBI investigation."

I listened again to this exchange this morning. Nobody is considering that Marco Rubio could have lied about the classified information. Cruz accused him of lying about something else just a few minutes earlier as well.  And Marco Rubio had some pretty good reasons to sling some mud at Cruz as Cruz was making him look pretty bad. The Senate Intelligence Committee is not even looking into it. So as I said before, it is a non issue.
