Cant find an affordable pistol stock, so Id have to mill one from aluminum.

What does the inside of the stock look like?
Magazine parts?
Screw size and threading , spacer  to attach the stock to action.
Barrel thingy thickness ?   (key , ring or stop) ?

You could do a V cut to cradle the action.

What cartridge were you wanting?  That would determine long or short action.

Barrel thingy?  Is that the thing that makes it evil and dangerous?

Nah Just kidding around...  Is that the recoil lug you are mentioning?  It sandwiches between the barrel and the action.  I can be of various thicknesses depending where you get it.  The factory lug is quite thin, aftermarket are much thicker, and flat ground for accuracy.

Short Action 308

Action is from Centerfire @ $399 , no other parts yet.

I know so far lug to lug is 6.5 inches

I'm no machinist, for me the $120 would get all the critical cut out of the way.  You could weld on extra alum, then mill off the grip and fore end parts, which aren't too critical. and if you mess those parts up,  you could cut them off and redo.

You could just mill out an alum chassis, then glass bed it. Just make sure you don't stress the action when you bed it.

Any one would do, as long as it is ground flat and true.  Is the action worked over square and true to bore axis?  That face will mate the recoil lug, and the lug mates the shoulder of the barrel.  That shoulder cut sets headspace off of the closed bolt.

That what i thought would happen with a thicker recoil lug, the headspace would be off.

Putting an aftermarket barrel, you'll need to cut the chamber and headspace it.

You could get a barrel nut type barrel for rem 700.  Then you headspace it with the jamb nut, like a Savage action.  Pretty easy and no heavy machining. (on the barrel)
