Bolo: High Tech Auto Theft

A friend contact me that 5 vehicles on his street in Ewa Gentry got broken into last night. All the cars had full alarm and factory entry alarm did not go off.  All were unlock, and no physical sign of tampering. They left Ipad, but only took small items, and some vehicles missing vehicle paperwork. Some type of alarm scanner device used.

Were all 5 vehicles using the same type of entry system, and were the entry systems installed by the same company?

Depending how far away from the car the people are, there are scanner like devices, transmission boxes that figure out the code and trick the car into thinking the box is the key.  Someone posted a video.  Ill see if I can find it

This Hacker’s Tiny Device Unlocks Cars And Opens Garages

At the hacker conference DefCon in Las Vegas tomorrow, Kamkar plans to present the details of a gadget he’s developed called “RollJam.”
The $32 radio device, smaller than a cell phone, is designed to defeat the “rolling codes” security used in not only most modern cars and
trucks’ keyless entry systems, but also in their alarm systems and in modern garage door openers. The technique, long understood but
easier than ever to pull off with Kamkar’s attack, lets an intruder break into cars without a trace, turn off their alarms and effortlessly access
garages.
