Why we will never win the 2A argument using facts:

Quote
It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble.
It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.

--Mark Twain

Here's an actual exchange on Twitter I had during the Obama Circus, Guns in America Town Hall.  Makes my head hurt re-reading it!

Didn't get anymore tweets from Janny M.

Im shaking my head right now... I have owned my first Glock 17 that I bought in 92 when I first was legal. I carry it loaded and holstered in my home, Never had an accidental discharge. When I go potty I just take the holster off the belt and set it on the tank. I should teach this to HPD and maybe charge $10,000.00 for 30 seconds of consultant work. But if I was allowed to carry it outside of my home Id probably Have an A.D. at I don't know target? With not being highly trained and professional and all.

I would say that you did win using facts. She stopped posting.

If your goal is to merely win an exchange on Twitter by regurgitating information until the other party goes away, then you are right.

If, on the other hand, your goal is to educate the other side through an open and honest exchange, then no, she forfeited, which is not the same as a win.

Our goal has to be to sway them toward at least doing more research rather than taking MSNBC and DailyKOS blogs at face value.  She walked away with no acknowledgment that she was wrong, nor she did not say she is now going to look at the pro-gun discussions with a more open mind.

Most Liberals argue with their "sounds logical" information and with snarky comments meant to be sarcastic and demeaning to the other person.  I see the same on the other side, but for the most part they are more than patient and only get snarky after the other person starts.  Some react positively when they realize you are only giving them a taste of their own medicine, but people like this one will just walk away from the discussion rather than admit you were right from the start.

Disillusionment in a cause like gun control is a hard pill to swallow after they've invested themselves in nothing more than an agenda.

While she may not have changed her mind, since she didn't respond we really don't know what happened to her position.

But as I see it, even if you didn't change her mind, we never know how many people saw the conversation and did reconsider their position. Though I must admit that I don't use twitter so I don't fully understand how it works and thus am not sure if this conversation is private of viewable to everyone.
