If your hydro flask fliptop lid develops a gross looking mold or mildew, just go to their website and complain.
They will send you a new top free.

Can this all be prevented with regular cleaning?

I tried scrubbing and bleach and that black stuff stays there. I'm not sure what it is.
I also have some chopping boards (made by a different company) that exhibit the same black stains.
Nothing gets rid of it.

If you can;'t scrub it off, sounds like discoloring of the plastic.
Try boiling water and if that don't work, try Acetone.
