Experience with CZ 75
« on: January 26, 2016, 08:00:08 AM »
Anyone own or have personal experience with CZ 75?

I've always been interested in CZ handguns (and to a lesser extent their rifles) and recently have really gotten interested in the CZ 75B and the CZ-75 SP-01.  I was watching Hickok45's videos on the CZ 75B (I think it was that variant) and it looked like a very fun gun and good shooter.  Well, he makes almost all the guns he shoots look like fun.

Anyways, I recall seeing one here and there, but none of my shooting buddies have one.  I would get one mostly for range fun and maybe give it a try in IPSC/USPSA.

I currently own a cz 75b. Its SAO (single action only) and in 40 s&w.  I like it, i like the weight doesnt make it feel like your shooting a 40 s&w feels like a 9mm, ease of take down. Wish i had a sp-01 version for the rail and wish it was double single action. But if you enjoy 1911 style you can have it cocked and locked. Just my 2 cents. I also have a 97b in 45acp. Didnt have much time behind this one though.
Im a recoil junkie

I really like my CZ's.  great guns IMO.  Some aftermarket parts are available, but not as wide selections as other makes.  Mine have been 100% reliable for me so far.  Maybe 1000 rounds through my 75B stainless and 500 or so through my 75 compact PROTEK from CZ Custom.

I'm interested in 9 mm single action versions.  I think I would be happy with the 75B, but I'm interested in the SP-01 version for the front slide serrations and to a certain extent the rail.  If I got the CZ, it would be primarily for range fun, but good to have options.

I saw the pics of your CZs in the threat that aieahound linked.  Nice guns!  With the cost of 45 ACP, I probably wouldn't have much time behing the 97b as well.   :(

You've got some nice CZs!  I like that they are seemingly pretty reasonably priced and have a darn good reputation.  The aftermarket parts availability is a little concerning with regards to sight and holster options.  Other than that, I don't intend to tinker much. Though the VZ grips on the PROTEK and the other poster's Copperhead in your other thread are certainly interesting.

Not sure if I'll go down the Cajun Gun Works route, but seems like they do great work!

I got one, I like it. Just gotta get used to the trigger so more, there's a little creep. Too used to the 1911 trigger  :D. It came with the decocker and manual safety, I put the manual safety in.

Came across two shooters with CZs over the weekend.  Tale of two guns.

One was functioning flawlessly and shooting well to boot (he's a great shooter, so he makes many guns look "great").  Not sure of the variant, but it was described to me as the basic 75 frame with a "tactical slide".  Was able to chat with the owner and he did mention his preference for the single action with safety versions and described some additional trigger mechanisms in the DA/SA variants that he didn't like.

The other was having all sorts of feeding issues.  Seemed to get stuck from going back into battery by about 1/4" or so and sort of randomly, but often.  I had assumed that it was due to reloads, but I found out later that the shooter was running factory ammo.  Even the other shooter (above guy) who was also shooting a CZ tried to help out and to no avail.  Some suspect it could be due to needing some adjustment in the feedramp and or chamber or recoil spring.  No one else shot the gun in question, so couldn't eliminate anything on that regard.

I'll still be on the lookout for a CZ SP-01 in the next 6 months or so.  If a nice 75B comes available, I might have to get that one.  The more I hear about these guns and see them about, the more I get interested.

Put in an order for the SP-01 a couple of weeks back.  I was told that the wait could be as long as 4-6 months. . .  In any case, really looking forward to my first CZ!

I have a SP01 in 9mm. I thought it had a great trigger at the store so i picked it up immediately.  Upon actually shooting it, i found out that there may have been some flashing in the sear causing it to feel like almost 0 creep and light. After about 30rds the actual trigger, while very smooth and light, had what felt like an inch of creep!  I couldn't stand it. I had a quick chat with Cajun Gun Works, and orderd the race hammer and adjustable sear.  After the install, well, i liked the way it shot before. Now its currently my favorite gun, even more than my beloved Mk3 22/45.   I ended up getting the SAO flat trigger, fiber optic front sight, and spring kit as well. While not cheap or a breeze to install, i now use that as my pistol measuring stick. I plan on getting a P07 and getting the race hammer with sear from CGW as well, Dave from CGW told me its even easier to get a fantastic trigger with the new "omega" triggers. So if you've had a chance to shoot a tuned 9mm 1911, its close to my CZ75 SP01.  It's essentially a tuned "Shadow", after the trigger work. I never had any issues with mine, besides the trigger. The trigger is probably me being picky. I love my volquartsen trigger 22/45, and my Kimber Custom triggers. So essentially i love crisp single action triggers. I compare the stock DA/SA trigger to my Sig 2340 but lighter. My SP01 comes in at 3lbs 8oz SA and 9lbs 9oz DA stock, and 2lbs 12oz / 7lbs 13oz after inital hammer and sear install. Then eventually 2lbs 7oz SAO. After the hammer and sear replacement the trigger was really really good for a SA/DA gun but i decided it was a range gun so went all the way and converted it to SAO. It shoots very flat and fast, ive emptied my mag as fast as i could pull trigger at Honolulu Firearms into a center mass silhouette target from 10 yds and all rounds on target dinner plate size group. Im not a great shooter by any means so i was ecstatic at that. My tuned glock was all over the paper at same distance. The weight really makes it a dream to shoot. I always wanted a CZ and was slightly disappointed with only the trigger but very happy with the rest of the gun. i hope you will be happy too.

This is my SP01. I forgot to mention the front serrations arent as aggressive as id like to be able to press check or rack slide. Oh and i picked mine up from Xring, Security Equipment had a couple also.

Thank you for the feedback Shots!

I was able to try some CZ recently.  Both a SP-01 and something from the CZ custom shop.  They are nice guns for sure.  I think I'd have to get used to the trigger feel and reset (mostly length) coming from shooting Glocks and now a PPQ.

Looking forward to when my SP-01 arrives, but I don't expect it for some time. . .  :(

I've also been looking at these for awhile.  Finally held one and also put in order on an SP01.  Stoked to get it and experience it.

Others have posted that the tigger improves after lots of rounds (1000), dry firing, or some polishing.

4-6 months?!?!!  Hope it comes sooner than that!  30 days is agonizing to me...... :'(

Did you order the "standard" or Tactical version?

I had a chance to pick up a CZ 75B SA when I put in the order for the SP-01, but I decided to stick with the SP-01.  Now, I'm thinking that if it's still available, I might pick that one up too.   ;D

At least I'll have mags that can be used in either.  Wish we could get the laws changed to allow standard capacity magazines here.

A quick search a few weeks ago resulted in no 9mm models, or at least none that were decently priced after shipping and FFL fees.  Always try support local fun stores, especially if the price is going to be about the same.
