I have been going to the gun show for years, usually I can carry everything I buy in a bag. But last October I knew I was going to stock up on ammo, especially seeing the deals the vendors had to offer. So I brought a small, metal folding handtruck. The guy at the ticket gate let me bring it in. Once I started loading the handtruck with ammo I started wheeling it around. A Blaisdell staff person walked up to me and said sorry I cannot use the handtruck, I would have to carry it around with the ammo on it from now on  ??? He said something like its a rule for the venue, only the vendors can use such equipment. I told him how are we expected to carry around heavy purchases then? He shrugged and said i'm sorry i'm only following directions from my supervisor (he points out a lady in Blaisdell uniform standing by the exit). I still had to visit more vendors but carrying the handtruck around looked stupid and it was damn heavy, so I chose to wheel it around while keeping an eye out for staff. I was wondering about this rule, maybe someone stubbed someone's toe in the past and there was a litigation thing?  Maybe I should contact Blaisdell venue...maybe handtrucks are prohibited but maybe hand "carts" are not??? By the way, I had an idea of bringing a baby carriage and using that to load my purchases lol. If all of that is not allowed, then damn, i'm just gonna bring a large bag and drag the thing around.  :-[ Anyone can shed some light on this subject?
...
The reason is injury prevention.
If you have a large load to haul out please contact one of the hhaa guys at the check in table by the entrance.
Tell them you need to haul a heavy load and you need an escort from a show marshall.
Thank you for calling attention to this matter.

If you are fortunate enough to be working a table at the gun show, you can park your cart there.  Then, you just have to carry individual purchases back to that table, and you can wheel the whole kit-n-kaboodle out at the end of the day.
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

Yeah something like that.
If you don't have a buddy with a table where you can park your stash, then I suggest asking the person that you bought stuff from to just hold it.
I have done that many times for my customers. They buy some ammo and ask me to hold it because it's heavy or bulky. Then return later to haul it away.
I would think any vendor would be happy to oblige since you gave them money.
But like I said previously, if you got so much stuff you need a hand truck then, per show rules, you should ask for an escort by a gun show (HHAA) officer so you don't get hassled.

I used a 20 in spinner suitcase the last time I bought ammo and had no hassles.

I brought a EZ plastic folding crate two shows ago when I had planned on buying 3 cases of ammo.  The guy at the front mentioned it was ok to bring that in - just not a flatbed or a handtruck.  I told him I wasn't rich enough to justify bringing a flatbed.

Hey thanks everyone for looking into it and giving suggestions. The folding crate looks like a good option, I've seen those at Lowes and City Mill. However the HHAA rules also lumped in "carts" with flatbeds and handtrucks. Unless the staff does not interpret the folding wheeled crate as a "cart", maybe its good to go. If I have time later I will try to find out from the Blaisdell venue what exactly is prohibited...maybe the baby carriage is a no-no too, might stub someone's toes....

Fisher's Hawaii sells those and lidded-versions for under $30, I'll try using mine for the gunshow-ammo haul :)

Who makes these dumb rules?

How are people supposed to carry their oversized/bulky purchases?

Going off topic about carts, I hope to find a certain style/brand used rifle at the show and have no experience with that.   After he gets your permit number what info does his receipt to you have to show and do you take possession at that time or do sellers want to make sure the gun registration is completed first at HPD?   If that's the case do you pay the seller after HPD?

Going back to carts, If I can't find that rifle then I hope to need a wheeled gizmo for ammo.

What are you looking for if you care to share maybe someone has one here to sell? The purchase and transfer would vary from seller to seller I'd think. Most private sellers and dealers should be ready to sell you and transfer to you a long gun there at the show, assuming you have a valid permit, ID and meet other requirements. If you know what you want and have a case that is appropriate bring it and leave it in the car so that way if you find it you can take it home with out getting it wrapped in paper or having to buy a case.

Looking for a JM stamped Marlin 336 in 30-30 win. made anywhere from the 70's to the early 2000's.   Don't care if comes with the cross bolt safety or not.  I see them on gunbroker etc. but I want to inspect first before I pay.

Another question for buying a older rifle bought before mandatory registration in '94 or '95, does the receipt to me just need sellers name, address and phone?  Any problems buying a rifle that legally did not require registration?
To me the answer should be obvious but sometimes dealing with bureaucracy there is no obvious or black and white.

Could be wrong I believe that the seller would have to register the firearm first prior to sale and then you could register it after purchase. Call HPD Firearms and double check, (808)723-3190.

Called HPD and the SGT. said the seller has to notify HPD of the sale/transfer to me in writing.   Sellers are given info from HPD at the gunshow.
With my permit I can take the rifle home from the show.   Good luck to all finding their wants at the show.

I usually take my dad to check it out at least one day.  If you're a vendor with knives on display, he'll usually leave with at least one!   :P

I usually look for deals on ammo and talk story with familiar faces.
