Big Island range bill finally moving through Honoulu bureaucracy (Read 13566 times)

Poste in Lesislative updates as well.

HB2528, a BFD to us on the Big Island to build our one and only (if you can believe that) public shooting range, is finally moving.

Much opposition from wealthy resort and condo owners, along with Oahu interests (GK?) repeatedly tried to derail it over the last few years.

Forced repeats of noise tests, etc.  Even one "errant projectile" red herring that smacked of your boy from Hawaii Kai getting involved.

Regardless, HB2528 is moving forward and open to testimony.  Please hammer it hard.   :shaka:

Any way of finding out what the amendments are?

Hope they are not screwing things up.

I think you have to wait till the website gets updated and than it lists the amendments or you have to read through all of it

HB2528 passed the finance commitee, with strnuous opposition fromthe big resort and condo outfits.  Attaching the link for those that want to read some sometimes hilarious testimony in opposition.

Even good old Mufi is still feeding at the trough, now at the head of some BS group included in opposition.

What I found very intiguing was the voluminous copy and paste of "stray bullet" articles.  Gee, who do you think might have had that all downloaded and ready for these people?

I really liked this quote from an opposing letter:

"We are not opposed to shooting ranges in general, especially for training law enforcement personnel.
We question somewhat supporting an activity that has been involved in so many recent tragedies
affecting scores of innocent children and citizens
.  "

Ah yes, law enforcement only, and "it is for the children".

If you really want to read this drivel:

Could more concerts and sporting events mean more revenue for Hawaii?
...There’s a push to create a new state agency that would be responsible for attracting major sporting and entertainment events...
“It is a right time, right place right now type of initiative and if we don’t do it now it is another year of missed opportunities,” said Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association CEO Mufi Hannemann.

Hmmm, Mufi says that we have to work on attracting major sporting events right now or we'll miss the opportunity.  How ironic.

When the subject of bringing in tourists for major shooting competitions was brought up, comment from the usual suspects came out like :
"We don't want drunks from Missouri shooting the place up"
"We don't want that sort in our resorts"

You get the idea.

Mufi wants to establish another "authority" organization so that the action of that authority would be its own bureaucracy, isolated from the purview of the legislature (who are *supposed to* represent the voice of the people.)

Same thing he did with HART.

BTW, Mufi has a strong opposition to the Kona range as seen in his written testimony.

Glad to see my testimony made it in along with a few of us little folk.
Some heavy hitters working against it, but glad to see DNLR seems to be on board. Note I am not normally a DLNR fan.
Recreational shooters are really in the closet on the BI. Options are very limited with private land being the only
legal one.
Back in the woods and hope you don't get caught, or "zero-ing your rifle" on hunting land, no 22's or handguns as they are not "suitable for hunting" Neither of these will fly.
Puuanahulu is a perfect place. Hope it goes! The new road between Hilo and Kona will make it accessible to all.

I really got a laugh out of all the "stray bullet" and "sniper rifle" cut and paste articles someone had all ready to go for the opposition stuff.  Not likely the Waikoloa resort types knew anything about all that.  They had Oahu help.

I smell 2AHawaii's favorite KHSC enemy chipping in his best effort to kill our range here.
