Kauai's Chief Perry tells you why you have no right to bear arms (Read 6661 times)

punaperson

Two days after I asked for investigative assistance from various media outlets (including Civil Beat) regarding being stonewalled (for two months thus far) by Chief Perry regarding his statutory authority to issue a CCW license for nine days, in contradiction to to HRS 134-9 stating the term shall be one year, we get this brief almost incoherent "editorial" from Mr. Perry. Since the data from Texas and Florida indicate that cops are THREE TIMES more likely to commit a crime than a CCW license holder, perhaps he means that his officers ought to be disarmed. That would be "logical", and not "tortured" logic, but logic in accord with the facts. But Chief Perry has no interest in facts, he doesn't even know how it was he (il)legally decided he could issue a CCW license for nine days, he just did it. Now he has to ask the county lawyers, "How did I do that legally?" You know that if it takes government lawyers more than two months to come up with an answer to a simple question that what we are going to see is some truly "tortured logic".

Why I’m Against the NRA’s Tortured Logic

"Rick Tubania · University of Hawaii at Manoa
succinctly put. agree 100%, the framers of our constitution did not envision that all citizens should be allowed to carry guns for self protection against other individuals; it was referring to the citizen's militia. we have great police officers like you to protect us, can't say the same for hpd."

Some people on Kauai might not agree...

Yeah, and we wouldn't want any of those forcible rape victims "killing innocent people".  :wtf:

police enforce the law
they do not make the law, change the law, or interpret the law.

if you cannot do your job, then quit.

NRA News host Cam Edwards spends 16 minutes "discussing" (in a rather more animated way than usual for the normally laid-back host) Chief Perry's Civil Beat op-ed.He spends a few minutes reading from Federalist #46, by James Madison, to clearly show that Mr. Perry's claim that the Second Amendment "was meant to establish and protect a new nation under extraordinary circumstances" is utterly false. Madison didn't believe the Second Amendment was "temporary" until the "extraordinary circumstances" had changed. How Ironic that Perry would make such a claim given that he won't issue any CCW licenses (okay, except for that one in 2013 where some citizen was "allowed" to legally bear arms outside their home for NINE DAYS) because his standard for "exceptional case" can't be met by anyone (else). I'm guessing that had Perry been present for the adoption of the Bill of Rights he would have voted against all of them, arguing that they'd only be needed in "extraordinary circumstances", and that bar hadn't been met.

Starts at beginning of second hour and goes for 16 minutes, from 1:00 to 1:16:

So in Chief Perry's logic we should call 911 if we need protection. Granted there is a response time. So if the police don't arrive in time and we get hurt or killed shouldn't the police be held liable? So let's pass a law that provides a "time out" a period defined as before a crime occurs so that the victim can call 911. i.e. a person is about to punch you in the face with a closed fist. The law would require the criminal to stop ala Matrix style to let you call 911. Sounds like a good law huh? I think it will pass with our current mind set of our esteemed legislators. The "Time out" law common sense crime prevention legislation. We need it. <insert Brian Schatz and Chris Lee's faces here>

Further fixed:

"...it was not the intent of the framers of the Constitution to have citizens walking around killing innocent people who do not have guns to protect themselves."
