KHSC Silhouette Range
« on: March 29, 2016, 05:23:10 PM »
Aloha All,

I'd like to shoot my 10/22 at the KHSC Silhouette Range.  I know that you can shoot pistols there and that there is a nominal fee, but don't know much more than that.

Couple of questions:

How many lanes are there?
When is it least busy?
Unsure of rules, but guessing that there is a 5 round max and no rapid fire?

Ant tips or advice would be appreciated and thanks all!   :shaka:

$5
22 rifle or any handgun
10 round limit.  no rapid fire
at least 10 lanes.  don't remember exactly
lately its been busy all day.  only open weekends.
50, 75, 100m targets.

be ready bc nobody helps to reset targets
probably bc they cant hit the small knock down ones.

If you shoot the Fun Matches scheduled on Sunday of the first full weekend of the month.

$5 covers your match fee, range fee for all day and a hot lunch.

You also get to shoot at the 25 yard chicken targets, 50 yard Pig, 75 yard turkey and 100 yard ram targets.

The next Fun Match is 3 April. Registration is 9am.

Can be hit or miss, but I've noticed that Saturdays seem less crowded than Sundays.

For me the 75 yard turkeys are the hardest to hit. I have to practice and then go back to shooting these matches. Best $5 you'll ever spend.

Last time I lasered the first line of targets they were something like 60 yds.

I've never actually measured the distances, but I always believed it to be measured in meters.
they changed the webpage since I last viewed it.
iirc, before the webpage said 50, 75, 100m.
but I could be wrong.  I only have a photographic memory for about 60 seconds.   ;)
probably, GZire's measurements are more accurate.

I shoot there almost every Sunday. Usually take the same bay. Always there before 8am and there's plenty of room. By the time I leave, it is full.

My rule of thumb is if you shoot the knock down targets, you should go out and reset them. Common courtesy in my eyes. In general, RO a lot more relaxed than the public side.

I've shot there on Saturdays and noticed it thins out after lunch. By 2 or 3 o'clock most lanes were open.

50m is about 55yd.

I always thought the distances were in meters as well.  It's been a while since I lasered the target stands, but IIRC it was around 60 yards, 80 yards and 100 yards.  However, that measured at an angle since I was somewhere closer to the right side and the last target that I measured at about 100 yards was a good distance to the left of my shooting position.

Speaking of silhouette range, I might head down there this weekend.   ;D

Back in the day the first line of steel used to be only a bit beyond the ac path that runs parallel to the shooting line.  The first line has been steadily moving back for years.

Thanks for the replies all!

How often are the targets reset and are there posted rules at the range.  Thanks for your patience with the newb question.   Just don't want to scolded by RO!   :shaka:

it seems like the knock down targets are reset as needed.  no real time line.

+1
even when all knocked down, if not a full house the RO will walk the line and ask everyone with a rifle if they want to reset or not. sometimes it doesnt get reset after 1pm sometimes even at 3pm they will call for a reset if there is the demand for the knockdown targets.
