Anyone own a suppressor?
« on: April 23, 2016, 01:46:47 PM »
Anyone here owned or own a suppressor? I am thinking about getting a tax stamp for a suppressor but, cannot find any information on if it is registered with the feds. I am 50/50 with wanting to build one.

It seems like a pretty straight forward process but, having one registered is not really a problem, well with a tyrannical government, it could be. Thanks.

P.S. I no longer live in Hawaii :D

The Basic steps to obtain a silencer are listed below:
• Make sure you can own one in your state
• Pick a silencer to buy
• Find a Class 3 Dealer
• Fill out and complete the required paperwork IN DUPLICATE
• If an individual, obtain Law Enforcement signature on the forms
be fingerprinted and paste or tape two photographs of yourself
onto the forms
• If a Corporation or Trust, you may skip the above step
• Pay the $200 Transfer Tax to BATFE
• Wait for your paperwork to clear
• Fill out a ATF Form 4473
• Take your silencer home

Contact any silencer dealer and they will be willing/able to awnser any questions.

Hey,

I appreciate the input. I understand how to go about it, I was wondering if they are registered with the ATF, primarily the address. Again, all legal purposes, I am concerned with a tyrannical government. If my address is registered with the ATF or other government agency, I will probably decide not to purchase or make a suppressor.

NFA items opens your home to ATF inspections much like any FFL.  Normally paperwork and your storage area.
They can come unannounced or call to make sure you are home before coming out. However, they rarely do come to anyone house.
These people are paper pushers and normally do check proper paperwork only.

To manufacture a suppressor requires you to file a ATF Form 1.  To purchase a commercial suppressor a Form 4 is required.

Any time you fill out paperwork be it a permit, licence, registration, tax stamp or background check They know who you are and what you own. Even if you only bought guns person to person with no paperwork, the first time you use a credit card to buy ammo or parts your on that list. Shit just being on a forum like this has put you on a list somewhere.

I just found out there was a Registration. A list is kept with the ATF but, evidently, it is inaccurate. I will wait until they are removed from the NFA, then I will purchase. The ATF will probably use that money to purchase a firearm that will be sold to Mexican drug cartels, that will end in another boarder agent killed...
