Well, it looks like another big box store is biting the dust. Too bad, I liked SA. It was a decent one-stop shop for sporting goods.

Look for the fire sales soon!

Will probably reopen under a different name.  I'd imagine they were profitable in Hawaii since we have great outdoor activities and they had little competition.

The store closing list is old, when they were attempting a comeback.  They threw in the towel and are closing/selling off all stores now.

Amazon is a big competitor, however locally they didn't have to compete with the other big stores Big5, Dicks, Academy, Cabelas, Bass Pro etc.

If it is like every other damn sale or coupon thing they have, look for the exceptions on firearms and ammunition...............

That's gonna suck if they close the Oahu locations.  I shop there often for all kinds of sporting stuff and even bought a Rem 700 from them way back when.

That said, I see that they usually have tons of employees just standing around and talking story.  That can't be efficient use of resources.

Spoke to a friend who works there. She said Hawaii stores do well and hasn't heard any plans to close. They might change names though. Maybe they will become Dicks sporting goods?

at some point SA began selling A LOT of apparel in the form of clothing, and a lot of the stuff in their weekly ad pertains to clothing which i would never take advantage of, especially when i can get a t-shirt for $8 next door at ross.  They never have any firearms or ammo related sales anymore.  They are kind of like the Best Buy of sporting goods, prices for accessories are marked way up.  I saw a portable air pump (like for pumping up basketballs), $29.99 at SA, i bought mine at ross for $8.

That being said I still like going to look in SA without buying anything.

When I was in new Mexico in march I witnessed and shopped a sports authority that was 2 weeks out from closing doors. The liquidation sale is alright really not that spectacular.  All the high ticket items including guns and ammo is not included they send it to other stores or whatever. Then it was like take an additional 10%-40% off whatever tag was. I also agree that the stores here will be bought by another brand for sure.

They would have to do that whether the go bankrupt or get sold

The employees are hearing rumors they might get bought out here

I hope you are right about being bought out. The news this morning was saying they were having a hard time finding a buyer.
