I will be travelling back to the mainland soon and when I return I want to bring my 11 pounds of ammo back with me. Here are my questions:

1. Is it 11 pounds per person or per bag?
2. Do I have to declare it like I would a firearm?
3. Will they actually weigh it separately from my baggage? Reason I ask is that 3 bricks of .22 ammo is 11.25 pounds. I would sure hate to have to break up a brick and leave some behind when the weight is so close.

2) no declaration required as a courtesy you can tell them you have ammo in your checked luggage
3) they reserve the right to weigh the ammo separately

My theory is 11.25 is not 12 pounds so you are still in the 11 pound range and good to go. It is doubtful that your ammo will be weighed at the counter, I have only been asked the weight and occasionally they will take a glance to ensure its in the correct packaging. Most counter people will not know their airlines policies regarding ammo so it would help to have a copy of it with you. Happy Travels

All the times I flew with ammo on HAWAIIAN, they only asked how much I had, never weighed it or even looked at it.
