It has been one of those days...
« on: May 14, 2016, 02:00:08 PM »
Last Sunday my 10/22 stopped being reliable. Right in the middle of the Fun Shoot/Rimfire Challenge. I looked inside of it and it was filthy. I took it apart this morning, cleaned it and for the life of me I couldn't get the bolt back into the receiver. This is one of the easiest rifles to take down and put back together. And I just couldn't get the darn thing together. I even broke out my iPad and got on YouTube to watch a video to see what I was doing wrong. I finally got it back together and decided to clean my other 10/22. And I put it right back together like I have been doing it for 30+ years. Then I started building my last AR-15 lower. I have built probably 15-20 lowers in my life and I have never had an issue. That is until today. You know those little tiny detents at the end of the spring you have to compress before inserting the front take down pin? Well, my neighbor walked up behind me, startled me and BOING the detent went flying. I used the second detent to replace the lost one for the front take down pin. But now I cannot finish building the lower. I ordered the part and I will hopefully finish it next week. I just need to vent a little.

I sat down and told my wife my stories. And while I am disappointed it is not the end of the world. She offered to take me out to dinner and get me drunk and drive me home. I decided to take her up on her offer. I deserve it, it has been one of those days.

I have extra detents if you need one sooner than later.  I am on Oahu now through this coming week and on BI next weekend.

Until then go have a nice dinner with the wife!

We all have one of those days.
You have a good wife.
Life isn't too bad if you have that.  :shaka:

I also have extra parts of needed sooner rather than later.

While your day didn't start well, sounds like it's shaping up to be a good night! Maybe I'd ought to tell my girl a similar story and she'll treat dinner tonight. :D

A good wife by your side is worth more than all the guns in the USA.
Take care of her.

Don't feel bad I spent 3 hours on Friday trying to put a Winchester 77 back together, I'm hoping I dident mess up the extractor, and I lost a defend spring the week before, shot out and fell between the wall and the foundation

An update to my previous bad day:

Yesterday afternoon I came home from another great day of shooting and put everything away except my rifle so I could clean it. I keep all my cleaning tools in a tool box on the floor of my garage under my supply shelves. I bent over to pick up the box and I saw something shiny right in front of it. It was the detent!!! I cleaned my rifle and then I finished putting together the lower for my new project. I went inside to try and cancel the order I placed. Could not do it. I called them this morning and it was too late. Oh well, lesson learned and I am out a few $ for this order.

Just keep the detent you ordered as a spare.

You can also buy a spare detent at X-Ring.  I've had to do the same when mine became a projectile to somewhere.
I think, therefore I am armed.
