Aloha, I was looking to buy a few old colt handguns that a friend got from his great grandfather however none of these handguns where ever registered in Hawaii... Is there a way?

You just buy them who would know? If you want the correct way the seller would need to register then transfer them to you.

Wave your mod wand and make this thread disappear like some antique ghost Colt's.

OP you could say that you brought them in from out of state.

Are these old enough that they are black powder, and thus not firearms?
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

Any firearm that shoots loose black powder or that is considered antique by the ATF definition of antique (pre-1899), no registration is required (HRS 134-3). Hawaii still requires you to have a valid permit to acquire ANY firearm, whether antique or modern, regardless of its serviceable condition. (HRS 134-2).

Exactly.  Inherited from a great-great-grandfather... could well be these are cap & ball.  Even if they're not, though, wow!  What a find!

???I thought that you have to get the information, apply for the permit to acquire, wait two weeks, pick up pre-1899 firearm but no need go back to register.  I have never done that but that is what I heard.
