My vehicle was broken into in Makiki area in April, despite being on private property with ample security cameras and warning signs. The perp was seen on camera bashing my vehicle window.

The responding officer who happened to be my friend told me the area is notorious for break-ins and thefts.  My golf clubs and other personal items and personal information was stolen.

Honda civics are the most stolen model of vehicles in the world.

Furthermore its never prudent to store firearms in a vehicle, nor is it legal, at least for regular non-leo citizens. Are LEO's allowed to store firearms in their personal vehicles?
If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready.

Are LEOs allowed to tell a hugging and/or kissing couple in a store to stop and then strongarm and arrest them when they don't? And then not be disciplined in any way? They can do whatever they want with little fear of discipline, because, well, they're "special". And they have a union. And this is Hawaii.

Was also going to mention da big dog.  Could have scared off the thief with a big dog in the car.
Need a t-shirt with a big dog holding his AR

Yes. They are technically always on duty and may have to respond to a police station in an emergency. They do have to keep them reasonably secured though, not left on the seat in plain view.

Makiki is notorious for vehicle thefts and break ins, not to mention the fact that it isn't possible to "reasonably secure" anything in a Honda. They are the most stolen vehicle on the planet because it's a well known fact that they have cheesiest locks ever devised.

This guy may as well have left his gun out on the sidewalk with a "take me" sign attached. Of all people a cop should know better.

ANyone remember that PBS with Keith Kaneshiro, HRA and Dan Boylan? Didn't Mr. Kaneshiro state that criminals get their guns from stealing them?

If this was a subsidized police vehicle it still wouldn't have made it okay I could see keeping the pistol in there though. A few officers I know have safes/vaults secured in their subsidized vehicles for storing their firearms.
I hope that charge this guy with a place to keep violation, we all know that's doubtful though.
