I managed to lose my VTAC padded sling somehow.  It will likely show up just when I get a new one.

Meantime, anyone have any preferences from what is available today?  I was trained with a traditional sling on the M14 for classic shooting positions and still a newbie at the tactical sling thing. 

I think a two point is still my preference, rifle is too heavy for a single point and the three point looks too fussy.  The VTAC interface was fair, took a lot of adjusting and was never quite done fiddling with it..

Magpul MS4 with QD

Two-point slings with QD connectors at each end.  I have two padded VCAS that I've trained a lot with and have taken through a few carbine courses.  It's good, but I prefer the non-padded slings.  I have a non-padded VCAS and am planning on getting one of the new RB1 slings, but haven't had a chance to use them that much. 

I prefer Savvy Sniper slings.

Wow, pricey but they come with hardware.

Think I am down to VCAS or Magpul MS1 for the simplicity at this point.  Do not need multiple configuration options and want to be able to quickly cinch up for tight sling shooting.  Avoiding padding, the VTAC padding never seemed to be in the right spot anyways.

2 point slings that are 1 point convertible.  I tend to make my own off a Vickers VCAS sling.  I like quick adjust for length slings and the VCAS is my favorite.  Even though I run a convertible sling, I run it in 2 point 90% of the time.  Very limited application for the one point.  3 point is an absolute no go.

QD on the front and rear. I run the rear on the outside of the butt to keep the rifle close to the body when slung across the chest

I can also use the loop in the slider portion as an arm loop to support stable prone shooting.

A Les Tam sling for your 03A3 would be top-shelf, but the wait list is years long.  If you're lucky Les will have one of his 'seconds' available for sale at the next gun show.

My dad has a leather sling (IIRC) on his 1903 and I think one for his Garand.  I'll have to take a closer look at them. 

I use a Vickers 2 point padded sling on my patrol rifle.  It worked well going through Sig academy and Front Sight where 80% of the students were using 2 point slings.  The padding is nice but necessary for a light rifle.  Prior to that I was using a Troy padded 2 point sling which had a rubber grippy surface on the pad which I didn't like.  The sling would grab onto my shirt instead of sliding freely when transitioning.  I put that sling on my bolt gun where it feels more useful on heavy rifles.

2 point slings are the best for overall use as it can keep you're hands free if needed, quick and easy to use, and good with heavy rifles too.  1 points are great for range use but you can't run with your hands free.  3 points are complex and the straps can get caught on everything. 2/1 point slings are a compromise.
