Call 911 for help !

Started this on kind of a whim, but the list developed so quickly and I tired before finishing but I thought it was worth mentioning.
No offense to our boys in blue who DO NOT participate in these scenarios, they must be just as scared and pissed off as we are.
Lot's of drugs, sex and violence here.

As they seem to be occurring with more frequency, maybe we should keep adding to the post as events occur, perhaps a permanent thread underneath
"HONOLULU POLICE CHIEF AND STATE OF HAWAII SUED FOR SECOND AMENDMENT VIOLATIONS"
We can use it as a "legitimate reason" for our CCW requests when told we're supposed to call 911 for "assistance".

A couple of notorious cases of wife-murdering cops from the Big Island (good thing they weren't "stalkers" or they would have become prohibited persons and had their guns taken away! Sure they would have...):

Police officer gets life for murder of wife
http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2004/Aug/18/ln/ln15a.html
"Former Kona police detective Albert Pacheco has been sentenced to life in prison plus 20 years for "ambushing" his wife and shooting her to death two years ago."

Hawaii Police Officer Mathison Murder Case Against His Wife
http://damontucker.com/2008/12/03/mathison/
“When Hawaii police officer Kenneth Mathison is suspected of killing his wife, authorities let him off with only a slap on the wrist. But after outraged citizens demand a thorough investigation, Mathison ends up facing kidnapping and murder charges." [And is convicted.]

I have to wonder if all this bad news is a bad sign or if it is a good sign. On the one hand, we see all the dirt, but on the other hand if you are cleaning house you expect to see more dirt. So maybe this wave of problems for HPD means they becoming more transparent and more accountable?

Stop...I almost ruined my keyboard.....that's funny.....

let's not forget this one....where a violence prone officer aggressively tries to keep a citizen from filing a complaint against him. And, when the other officers have difficulty controlling the (probably roid) raging officer, the LT tells the citizen it would be better if he just left.....

Anecdote aside, what is your point? Can you clean something without seeing dirt?

That your childish and simplistic attempt to analogize this situation was, well....childish and simplistic....and doesn't represent any real evidence that HPD is trying to be more transparent....unless you suppose the recent incident where they were looking for one of their own after a sexual assault, where they didn't notify the public, tried to mislead the public that said officer was "armed" and allowed him to cover his face as they filmed him being unloaded from the ambulance, are somehow indicative of this new and improved form of transparency.....

Getting caught but at least they aren't getting covered up, I hope that is a positive sign.

This kind of reform wont happen overnight so I suspect that we will see a lot more dirt even as things improve (assuming they improve)

My comment was not an attempt to quantify the level of corruption, merely to pose a philosophical point to think about when looking at these strings of unfortunate incidents.

Blame rests in two places, the department and the individual. The department can't stop the individual from going off but they can act appropriately when they know what the individual did. If we see these officers being arrested in the news then at least we know that they aren't hiding it all.

And I don't know where you are suggesting the public was mislead or kept in the dark. I recall seeing on the news a broadcast that HPD was looking for the officer who was a sex assault suspect, photo and everything.

Didn't you say: "So maybe this wave of problems for HPD means they becoming more transparent and more accountable?" You asked a question and I suggested an answer: No

HPD has a long history of burying their dirty laundry and have fought long and hard to keep disciplinary actions from public disclosure. With leadership that espoused these qualities (truthfulness, transparency, fair treatment of officers and citizens) rather than just paying them lip service, the message might just get passed along to he "rank and file."  If HPD officers can run around in their subsidized vehicles with illegally (dark) tinted windows and non-standard emergency lights with impunity why should we believe that other behaviors and actions (like the aggressive officer that prevented a citizen from making a complaint and the LT who suggested that citizen leave because they couldn't control one of their officers...) that are indicative of a pervasive level of corruption and nepotism are being addressed in a more transparent manner?

It was only after a local news station threatened multiple times to go public with the story that HPD finally released the info. Without that pressure it is certain that they would have tried to keep it covered up. And, when they finally released the info, including the fact that he had a subsidized vehicle with a police radio and lights and siren, they made it a point to say the suspect was unarmed. Really? Unarmed? I think not....

I suppose that would be a more complete picture but I think when it comes to the government's culpability in the manner, most of the problem lies with the department. But I am also talking about corruption specifically, not overall problems. I doubt the Mayor is coming out and covering up bad individuals.

You are right that the Union is a problem as well but that is a little different nature I suppose.

I am not in disagreement with you here about the problems, I am just pointing out that our seeing more dirt does not necessarily mean there is an increase in corruption. What I am hoping is that this wave of dirt is a sign things are getting cleaner. Maybe I will be let down but I can hope can't I?

I do know that police put out an APB for the officer and the media does have access to the patrol radio channels. I don't know how they determined whether he was armed or not, unless they recovered his firearm(s) somehow.

Really? The police have no problem telling the public when Joe Blow is considered armed even when Joe is a felon and should not be able to possess a gun, yet somehow wants the public to believe that Hawaii's "Only Ones" (you know the Only Ones granted the privilege of carrying a gun in public because they are so well trained and vetted as "good guys") while running from a crime isn't armed? That is considered pure propaganda and media manipulation....

Sadly you may be right. Unfortunately it is a difficult thing to measure. Having no bad stories could mean there are no bad officers, but it could also mean it is successfully covered up.

This is speculation really because neither of us know the whole story. If his duty gun was recovered somehow and he had no other registered firearms then couldn't they reasonably say he was unarmed?

To say he was "unarmed" because (if) they knew he did not have any firearms with him that were registered to him is making some seriously questionable assumptions. 1. He may have had a firearm that was not registered to him (I know 1. they wouldn't know that and 2. the "only ones" typically hold themselves to a higher standard of ethical and lawful behavior (see previous news article posts at the beginning of this thread)), and 2. there are many objects that constitute "arms" other than firearms. Just sayin'... whatevahs...  :shaka:

All valid points, but why would they lie? I mean its not really like they are doing him any favors by saying he isn't armed.
