Police offer advice on what to do if found in ‘active shooter’ situation (Read 16469 times)

"So what do police advise people to do if they’re at a location with a shooter? Basically, run away, and if they cannot run away, hide somewhere. If that is not possible, police say they must fight back."

Except you do it with your hand tied behind your back because they wont issue permits

I read where people are studying mass shootings and the patterns of the shooters

but there is nothing good going to come from it

because we can't perfectly predict the behavior of the shooters.

How can you fight back when the police chief refuses to issue concealed carry permits to law abiding citizens ? The only people with guns is the bad guys, No matter how many laws they pass they wont follow them, The only people following the laws are the victims

Weapon of opportunity. Look around for something you can use, like a fire extinguisher.

Not from HPD, but we recently had mandatory active shooter training/discussion here at work that had the same/similar message.

The gist:

1. Run - Know your building's exits.  Somewhat touched on situational awareness (always good), but didn't to into discussion.
2. Hide - Where one can look to hide and barricade.
3. Fight

We have a wide range of age and interests here.  Lots of questions, especially from the older ladies (60s and maybe even more).  There are a handful of "gun guys" and people who are interested in guns and have approached me about helping them go to the range, buy a gun, etc with the goal of self defense, but generally majority of people here not really interested in guns.  Haven't really come across anyone who is totally against, yet. . .

I didn't agree with everything that they were advocating, but I thought it was good that they were making an effort to have an open discussion about this topic.  There were actually a couple of people who work here that were in adjacent buildings where active shootings occurred on the mainland.  That sort of brought home the dangers in the thinking of "well, it can't happen here/to me".

FWIW, where I work, firearms are not allowed.  At least for me.

The comment I posted on there, along with one other comment at the time, have both been removed. I'm going to re-post it:

The only effective response to an "active shooter" is a "good guy" shooter retuning fire. Not one single "civilian" person in Hawaii is legally allowed to carry a firearm. The police chiefs of Hawaii counties have made a mockery of their sworn oath of office to uphold both the Constitutions of the United States and Hawaii which state that the people have a "right to... bear arms".

The government of Hawaii prefers defenseless victims.

They should at least have a notation in the comments section to the effect "X number of comments removed due to writers advocating Second Amendment rights". I doubt we'll ever see that.  :wtf:

So... ah... who was it on here that was being skeptical about liberal media bias?

If you remove the "The government of Hawaii prefers defenseless victims" part, maybe they would allow it, and the post would seem more objective to moderates and on-the-fence liberals.

I'm not saying that part is unfounded, but it gives liberals more excuse to consider it "spam" in their minds.

I believe the only truly "politically correct" comment that would meet their approval would be along the lines of "what the story said". What'd be the point? They don't want onyone to be allowed a public forum to voice views they disapprove of. It's their site, they can delete everything they don't like. Too bad they pretend they have a "comment" section when what they really have is a "comments that agree with an approved agenda" section.

Yup.

So the trick is to post something right on the edge of their viewpoint, to push on the fence readers to the other side.

This is what the liberals do anyway on conservative news sites. They cast doubt and confusion in the minds of readers on various issues, and push moderate thinkers leftward.

Well i called KHON and the person i spoke to who worked on the story seemed as confused as i am, He was not their overnight so it would of been some one else that deleted the comments,  I asked why it would of been deleted and he said they would only deleted it if it was offensive or overly critical of police actions, I wold him what i wrote and he said he cant see why it would of been deleted,  He had me submit my complaint/question in writing so that it can go to the correct people to get an answer.  I have and we shall see.
