Tape over barrel muzzle?
« on: June 15, 2016, 01:59:50 PM »
See it on tv all the time that hunters put electrical tape over the barrel muzzle to keep water & debris from entering.  I guess it doesn't affect the shot.  Does anyone do it here?  Thanks!

Gun condoms exist.  But unless you are rolling in mud, dunking your gun in water and doing crazy shit its not really needed.

I'd think that it would effect the shot.  A blade of grass can effect the bullets impact in relation to the point of aim.  At close range it wouldn't matter much, as distance increases so would the error.

There are a lot of guided hunt type shows on The Outdoor Channel.  I used to watch here and there, but don't recall duct tape.  That said, those hunts are the full guided thing and the guide probably takes care of all of that stuff.  The only thing I've seen covered are their optics.  Some of them hike through some pretty rough terrain though.

Steely hard and indefatigable!

Used tape over muzzle all the time. That's knowing...  :shaka:
Better than having water, mud or dirt in your muzzle when pushing through the thick.
Carry a bore snake as back up just in case.

Do it all the time brother ive hunted long enough to have murphy pop up when he's most not wanted lol. Especially hunting around the world with all that money on the line. Better to be safe than sorry, its mainly to stop anything from going into your barrel unknowingly or if you slip and fall etc. Stops your muzzle from being plugged with dirt etc.

We've tested it on our rifles and didnt see much of a measurable difference. From 22's to 408 cheytac wildcats  but as always test on your rifle to verify.

Hope this helps my bradda...Happy Huntin'

yah 808... at Lanai I accidently hit the muzzle in the red dirt trying to get a stable rest on a mound to take a shot at a passing Axis buck.  First deer hunt, so excited I wasn't watching the muzzle while doing the comamndo belly crawl but just focused on the deer.  I didn't take a shot. I did carry a bore snake tho'.
You use regular electrical tape?  Thanks!

Howzit Gunner,

Yes we use electrical tape a.k.a. black tape lol. Had a good buddy take a spill on Moloka'i some years ago. He rolled down the hill and his barrel was packed so tight with dirt rifle was useless. He was really pissed too since that was the most bucks we've ever seen together in a small bowl. Shot a 38" and a few 36" and they werent the biggest bucks in the bunch either. He now uses black tape ever since hahahaha...Aloha

I use electrical tape.  the air pushes the tape away before the projectile leaves the muzzle
