For a gun writer, it sounded almost too unbelievable to be true.

The Pasco County Board of Commissioners declares a state-of-emergency Saturday because of severe rains and flooding, and then an unknown county official supposedly orders the Walmart Supercenter in Wesley Chapel to suspend firearms and ammunition sales because of the emergency.

Aaron Mullins, Walmart’s corporate spokesman, confirmed the story Monday, at least at first.

“A county official reached out to the store and said they weren’t allowed to sell firearms or ammo,” Mullins said Monday morning. “The store did not give me the person’s name, but said they were contacted by a county official Saturday.”

The guns and ammo ban remained in effect through the weekend, and was still still active as of Monday morning.

No doubt the co-manager made a questionable decision.
But Walmart is a business like any other.
They can refuse to sell anything anytime they want.
What, Me Worry?

The  story suggests a government representative made that decision for the retailer.  That, to me at least, is the larger concern.

Oh yeah. Didn't the article say that manager is getting some internal disciplinary action?

Since the manager couldn't produce the county official's name, and no other gun retailer the author contacted had also received such a call, it's reasonable to conclude the Walmart manager may have decided to enact his own personal "Assault Weapon Ban".

Speculation .... but might explain the discipline.  The Walmart spokesman didn't go into much detail as to what the manager did wrong.

Because floods will make people murderers?

Don't see the logic here.

That sounds like a Liberal response.  Guns are always about murders.

It's because the state (gov't) wants to have control during an emergency.  They can't control armed people refusing to evacuate to government shelters.  They also think anyone with guns will become looters, without even contemplating the other side of that coin -- they are disarming the looter's victims.

At least we have the law that bars confiscation of firearms during a national emergency... For now.

we are in a state of emergency right now (since last year) for the homeless situation,

The beauty of it is,  They know the owner of every registered gun.
Where they live and  what they most likely drive.
This being Hawaii,  I'm sure everyone will surrender their arms, when
requested.
The government is your friend and will protect you.
