Since looking into blades more recently, got back into more of the details, including different blade materials, shapes/grinds, etc. Like guns, there are many choices, each with pros and cons, depending on intended use. I usually look at blade shape, but have been looking closer at the material lately, and even more so after discussing with another forum member.

I own a range of knives in prices and blade materials. I also enjoy sharpening knives and have learned along the way that the blade material is important. Learned at first with diving knives a long time ago and how cheaper blades can be corrosion resistant, but practically impossible to sharpen or hold an edge. Now with the newer “premium” steels, they are great and retaining and edge, but need a little more effort to sharpen. I have a few in m390 and 20CV (added another m390 recently) that I’ve been testing and using more lately.

JHO Knives, GS2 model, out of Singapore.  They are having a sale right now, 15% off.  Seen them for a while, thought I'd give it a try.  Not cheap, but with the 15% off, thought why not.

I think I prefer Emerson Knives. The bottom 2 (CQC-7 and Bulldog) are my current carry knives. The top one (Roadhouse) was retired because it had lockup issues. I also have a SOCFK and Mini CQC-15 that could use a touch up.

I've heard good things about Emerson knives.  I got interested in them after talking with a buddy in Guam who is heavy in to eskrima and kali.  He carries a couple of fixed karambits and he recommended Emerson.  Is that CQC-7 an older one?  I haven't seen them without the wave thing on them. 

Seems like you're a fan of the tanto blade shape.  I know many folks who really like tantos as well.  I have a couple, but I tend to stick to drop points and spear points.  I have tended to stay away from tantos mostly due to taking more time to sharpen and a technique that I haven't really gotten good at.

My CQC-7 is a newer production, I think 2015. The original CQC-7, produced by Benchmade, was waveless.

one of those cheap knives made in China that keep popping up on my screen suggesting that I buy it, so eventually I did!   
its a CH3504-G10, company is Eafengrow.  it has G10 grips, D2 steel, ball bearing pivot, flipper, overall I was really surprised at the quality.  its a really good knife for $34.99
before I bought it, I did a little research online and youtube and all the reviews were very good, surprised at the quality just like I was.  the ball bearing pivot and flipper really work well, pivots smooth like butter.
its a 3.5" blade, overall length is 8.5"
i'll probably get a couple more models of this brand.  a few of the models are copies of big name brands but much cheaper.  quality is very good.

Ya.  I'm no expert on karambits as well.  But the way my buddy explained his use and ideas behind them, I was interested.  One way he uses in SD situation is like that Colonel blade (or something like that) from BCM.  It's based on a punching motion, which most folks are at least basically familiar with.

Those Eafengrow look like nice blades period, and even more so for the price.  The CH3504-G10 is pretty close to the overall style that I prefer these days.  Flipper, drop point, and liner lock.  I might have to order one or two of those to give them a try.  That and I already have my eye on a Boker flipper as well.
