If you are talking about putting a 40 slide and barrel on 9 frame, then it essential is a .40, not a conversion.

Converting a 40 to 9 using a conversion barrell is a whole different animal.

Please clarify.

For a 9mm to 40 conversion, you'll need the complete slide and barrel and magazines to match the frame of the gun. That's a pretty expensive conversion. Might as well just buy a .40 to go along with your 9mm.

Thanks for some info guys.  My intentions were to put a .40 barrel into my glock 17.  I though it sounded to good to be true but the guy at the gun store said that it would work as long as i bought .40 cal magazines as well ??? ???

What guy at what gunstore?

I would have to look, but I think the 9mm slide bore is two small for the .40 barrel to fit.

Someone check me on this.

I've been told I could just swap the barrel and mags of either, but I don't have any proper citations on that.

You can put a 9mm Barrel and magazines in a G22 or G23 to make it a 9mm but you can't convert a 17/19 up to .40 cal.

I am pretty sure it is barrel/complete slide/ and mags.

You can downcovert with just mags and a conversion barrel.

The Ejector is slightly curved on 9mm.  You may have some extraction problems if you don't swap out the ejector/housing.

I've heard that too.

Never done it myself so I don't know from first hand experience.

My philosophy is if I want two calibers, buy two guns. Haha

.40 barrel wont fit in a 9mm slide and vice versa, the only conversion barrels available step down in caliber, not up.  Best bet is to buy a Glock 22.

Be CAREFUL if you think of or try to do this.  There is one additional part in the 40 and 45 cal Glocks as compared to the 9mm Glocks 35 vs 34 or 34 vs 33 parts.  I forgot now it was told to me awhile back by a Glock armorer.

The .40S&W barrel does not fit into the small hole in the slide of a Glock 17/19/26 (9mm).

There are conversion barrels out there for .40S&W pistols (Glock 22/23/27) that allow you to shoot 9mm WITH the conversion barrel (.40 to 9mm) AND the 9mm magazine. With the conversion barrel you don't need to change the internals.
