Can't believe a LA police chief made that comment.   The sling made the rifle more deadly by making it more stable when shooting.

There was a big report on national news on the shooter.

The gunman was identified as Gavin Long, 29, who officials said died at the scene. Long had driven to Louisiana from his home in Kansas City, Missouri, and opened fire on the officers as they responded to a 911 call, officials said.

Records show that he served in the Marine Corps as a data network specialist for five years, was deployed to Iraq in 2008 and received a handful of medals for his service. Officials are probing what links he may have had to an anti-government group for which he had shown support, a source familiar with the investigation said.

I saw he was a Muslim convert, and he had more recently joined one of those Free Person anti-government groups.

"I just wanted to let y'all know, don't affiliate me with nothing," he says. He says he wanted people to know that his actions were his alone.
He then goes on to list organizations he may be affiliated with -- including the Nation of Islam (which he says he was a member of), Floyd Mayweather's The Money Team (he's wearing their hat) and terror groups like ISIS.
"I thought my own stuff; I made my own decisions; I'm the one who gotta listen to the judgment," Long added.

If anything, I think it fits right in with their push to ban/restrict "military grade weapons" even further.

Not really, but I don't think it makes much difference in the big picture with regards to their push for gun control.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly notice the "liberal narrative".  Interesting how in the recent incidents such as the Dallas shooting, Nice truck thing, Baton Rouge shooting that CNN was quick to report the incident, with no initial mention of the race of the person.  Yeah, they probably didn't have that information, but it's not like that stopped them from speculating in previous incidents where it appeared to fit their "narrative".  I just don't think that just because they aren't pushing the issue doesn't mean it won't be used in the future.  Ok, we've banned the "evil black AR-15", then the "evil Bullpups", then the "evil 10/22".

Their silence says a lot to me loud and clear. If you catch my drift.... Like let's ban trucks also....

Yeah, I get your drift and easy to see through the BS, at least for me and many here.  What's not easy is to convince people otherwise who accept that narrative as truth, and there are MANY out there.
