No words needed ...

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

A good reminder.

Police work seems to be an increasingly hazardous job considering the terroristic threats and the moral decay and degradation of society in general.  First responders are there to try and keep the peace and order in our increasingly less peaceful societies.

Thank you and God bless to all the men and women in blue, red (fire) and white (ems) for the work you do.

Now for the higher ups, stop infringing on our rights.

I'm a well know cop hater,  I have my personal reasons.
Being a cop is not even in the top ten most deadly jobs in America.
They have a nearly impossible job,  but they routinely abuse that
trust and authority.  I won't talk to a cop unless forced to.
I have only called a cop once in my life and that was to save the life
of the criminal I was about to kill. I don't like being robbed.  The cop
explained to the burglar that he was very lucky to be alive.
The cop took twenty minutes to get to my home after the 911 call.
I'm all for EMS and fire people, they are heroes, cops are just janitors
and tax collectors.
Cops primary job is to protect the "higher ups" and their own butts.
Obey the laws always.  Just like the Jews in Germany it will work out OK.

Janitors? That would be an oddly accurate job description of some of the things they have to do. They do have to take care of all the rubbish and leftovers that don't get taken care of by other services.

And you are correct that they don't even have the top ten most dangerous jobs, but let me ask you this: How many other job professions exist where people will intentionally target you and try to hurt you? Aside from the military, not many. In the top 10 dangerous jobs people get hurt and die from accidents, not from malicious acts.

Try a ride along with the police one day, you might be surprised. You have nothing to lose. I did 3 or 4 and it was worth it. I am the son of a cop so feel free to consider me a little biased. I am a critique of abuse of police powers and I have reported an officer to the lieutenant on duty before for an infraction. However I do recognize the sort of unique situation that is police being humans and bending or breaking the lines.

I have ridden with police, I once thought I wanted to be a cop.
I have lots of police science school credits.
I realized that I could never bring in a child rapist, alive.
So I became an engineer.  Better for you, better for me.
They are still janitors and tax collectors.

Not attacking you or anything but in your previous post you stated that police routinely abuse their powers but then in this post say that you would have trouble bringing in a child rapist alive.

How can you criticize police for abusing a power that you yourself admit you would abuse? My larger point is that I think people forget that cops don't stop being humans with human feelings and reactions.

Besides going from 0 to 100, cops are also required to go from 100 back to zero. Maybe a suspect just tried to kill the officer but suddenly gives up and the officer is expected to pocket that anger in an instant and not react violently. I think that is a difficult task for a human to do.

I think his point is that he knows his own limitations.  Some officers don't, or don't care.

I do appreciate his honesty, but I was getting at the bigger issue the situations police face and the human ability to resist the stresses from such situations. Cops have to be aggressive at the right time but they cannot be too aggressive and they cannot be not aggressive enough. And sometimes they have to be teddy bears. Not that it justifies the behavior but I can see how cops end up over reaction or acting inappropriately sometimes.
