My LEO friend told me there is a scam going around town.

You see a baby seat on the side of the road with a life like baby in it.
You pull over and then wham! you get carjacked.

Gee you can't even be a good samaritan now!

Anyone know what the carjackers are then doing with the cars?

Hahaha.

Not sure about that but I remember, quite a few years ago, there was a "chop shop" in Waipahu that got raided by HPD.

He said they were taking the cars driving away and abandoning them elsewhere.
I asked how come they never put this on the news?  They dont want to alarm the
public! I was like what?!?

His advice....Don't stop call the police!

that doesn't surprise me at all. My uncles a detective in Waikiki an he would tell me the same thing. And I would tell him "Cops are there to make reports, not stop crime. You guy come after the fact." and he would get mad.

Hawaii needs open carry law, if there was this śhit wouldn't happen.

Open carry is good, but I think a Shall Carry (CCW) is more of a deterrent as you don't know who you are dealing with.

I would like to be able to do both.  CCW deters violent criminals in general, open carry deters the particular criminal who's sizing you up at present.

Sometimes yes and sometimes no.

If I'm willing to mess you up to begin with, I'm just going to be a bit sneakier if I know you are carrying.  Instead of confronting you face to face, I'd smash you in the back, then take your gun...............well at least that's what many who advocate a CCW will say.  Open carry doesn't stop LEO's from getting punched in the face or someone trying to run them over.

True. I'm an equal-opportunity advocate, I'll take either and prefer both. My response to the police thing is that a police officer's job is to confront violent criminals, mine is to avoid them. What I mean is that a cop is much more likely to be struggling with a violent felon than I am. I know cops sometimes get their guns taken, but that's the nature of their work. The question is, how often are cops selected as victims and mugged, raped, or carjacked?

Popos have had several high profile examples where their firearms were stolen from their cars.  So it happens.  These are just the ones that were reported, just imagine how many don't.  I haven't heard of any recently, but a couple of years ago it seems like it was happening every couple of months.

Anyhow..........the LEO's down here have absolutely no idea how to CCW.  It's pretty easy to make these guys with the massive bulges in their waists.  If I was a criminal those are the guys that are getting the baseball bats to the head before I rob the store.

It's funny you say that.

I was at a couple fun stores yesterday and I saw an off duty PO with the proverbial "massive bulge" on his waist.

Thats the first thing I thought.
