That is a very profound statement.   For this reason, would include some means of protection like sling shots and ammo or light take down bows.  Or other means of protection in case the emergency leads to breakdown of all emergency services.

If I need to use sling shots or a bow for protection, I'm bringing a gun.

Well im working on an Ammo can kit that can be stored anywhere and will contin everything you need for 72 hours, You might not be comfortable but you would be alive.

Good thinking on alternate kits as well as your options to have kits stored elsewhere besides your home (car, work, etc).  It's amazing how quickly a house can get torn up in high winds, especially the single wall construction type homes that are very common in Hawaii.  I deal with designing buildings for high winds and hurricanes (along with earthquakes) and studies have shown that once the building's envelope is breached, the roof can get ripped off VERY quickly!  This is particularly dangerous at the corners of the building. 

Anyways, either might not have access to the area where you stored your kit or the kit itself may get damaged or even lost in the debris.  Luckily not a common occurrence in Hawaii, but that would be where you would need the hurricane bucket/kit.

LOL.  Used profound because that statement had a lot of truth. Lots of people including me sometimes store comfort items not necessary for life support into BOB or get home bags.  When it comes down to weight, should only store items necessary for life.
Maybe you can practice slingshot at the archery side, don't know.   I'm thinking of getting a slingshot.   Probably not good to leave staged in the car if heat will affect the rubber.

KK, covered that option in my last sentence of "other".   If a 100' + tsunami or similar disaster hit Honolulu and you need to di di, the gun is the only option since you can expect absence of police services in many areas.  Thing about slings or bows is you can leave in your vehicle everyday (unless out in the sun).

Self defense, (fill with rocks and you have a very good sap)

Entertainment (roll it up and you have a ball)




 

Most of the items i put in are vacume sealed, Why ? Most time its rudes the space they need, It keeps the Dry and it keeps the organised.

Flashlight, Head light with batteries, Matchs, Water purification tabs and tea lights,

Multi-tool (much easier than a bunch of little stuff. plus can be worn on belt)

Bug repellent or netting. (Really big downer psychologically if the bugs are eating you and yours.) I have both deet type and the smoke rings that work really well and last a few hours each.

Bar of soap or Dr. Bronners, or both.

I would also include the ziplock type bag in various sizes. 

When I would travel, my wife would put my clothes in ziplock and squeeze the air out.  It would taking up less space and like my meals when she is not there, i just pull out a bag, open and I am ready.

Making these things is rather addictive, I now have basic kits in all 3 of our vehicles, All bedrooms and a main kit for the house. Each one is tailored to where its kept and what it would be used for.

I would also include the ziplock type bag in various sizes. 

I have some gallon size bags in there (mainly to store the Lifeboat rations in once opened) I have a hole roll of trash bags that can be used for the same effect as well tho.

Nowdays on Oahu seem like the most likely occurance is getting stuck in traffic when HPD shuts down H-1 or other highways for hours.  For this, some hard candy, energy bars,  jerky along with water or capri sun juices, toilet paper, HD plastic bags, small area light, empty piss bottle and portable radio are the basics to survive the car wait.  Don't know how you could take a dump in your car but at least you got the supplies.   I know they make portable lightweight toilet seats that snap on to 5 gal. buckets.  Hope I never find out.
