Conservatives

What do conservatives conserve?  Conserve: protect (something, especially an environmentally or culturally important place or thing) from harm or destruction. Based on their political behavior we seem to have a contradiction, but that is based on emphasizing the parenthetical.  That which they really conserve i.e. protect, is their own privilege, wealth and power.  There are basically 2 kinds of conservatives.
The conservative leadership is dominated by white, old, rich, men (WORMS).  To give them credit they are very good at raising banners that collect followers who do not fit the whole description, but meet at least one of the criteria.
The other kind, are the idealogs who believe in the conservative philosophy even if it is not working so well for them, they may be comfortable farmers, or small businessmen.  Another group are those whose work atmosphere is authoritarian: police, military.  They call for less government for themselves, but law-and-order for those that they perceive as Liberals or undeserving. Typically the conservative has not been the victim of discrimination so they do not perceive it as a problem.  Very few conservatives are a member of a minority.  They tend to support discrimination e.g. complex voter ID rules, and regressive taxation e.g. retail sales tax on food.
Conservatives unite on anti-liberalism, without ever defining Liberal. They often give it the same inflection as vermin.   Liberal is not a species.  White American conservatism tends to unify on many seemingly disparate issues, pro-life, pro-death penalty.  Liberals on the other hand are famously disorganized, because by definition a liberal is one open to new ideas.

HI Ken, Welcome to the forum,

I might suggest that instead of copy and pasting articles from your blog, That if you want to have a conversation about a subject then perhaps you write something a little more engaging. Your article is obviously your personal beliefs that have very little to do with facts outside of the twisted statistics provided by left wing propaganda websites.

because by definition a liberal is one open to new ideas.
As long as those ideas do not run contrary to leftist/Marxist ideology.

That quote might be the funniest damn thing I will likely read today.

I disagree with your definition of conservative.  In American conservatism people want to conserve the full meaning and intent of the constitution that this country was founded on.

I do agree with your definition of liberal.  However, in practice I find many liberals do not have an "open mind to new (or old) ideas"

I will concede many conservatives are also guilty of hypocrisy.

On BOTH sides many tend to want to silence opposition views.

That is why we should have civil discussion on topics, using facts and logic, as opposed to emotion and rhetoric, which is in such abundance today that it seems to be the default opening to any debate.

I have a couple things to say. First he is calling conservatives "WORMS". All the left does is use race and bias to classify conservatives then yell and scream that this is what conservatives do to minorities. Hypocrisy is rampant on the left and in particular this person who is using race and bias to define conservatives. I for one don't appreciate the hypocrisy using race and bias and I personally think it should be removed from this forum. The second thing I want to say is that liberals are far from open to new ideas. Liberals and even more so the progressives are doing nothing more than rehashing the progressive movement from the late 1800's to the 1920's with their failing social ideals and social reforms. We know for a fact from past history that the progressive ideas failed. Why would we think that the liberal rehash of old ideas are anything new and forward thinking? JMHO

I believe he is calling 'white rich old men' worms.  And the reason I disagree with the OP'S definition of conservatives.

He said the conservative leadership is dominated by WORMS. He is using race and bias to describe conservatives in the same way liberals yell and scream that conservatives do the same thing to minorities. I personally feel it has no place on this forum. JMHO

Conservatives in America conserve the idea of human dignity.

For a person to be dignified, he or she must have liberty to do things (without infringing on others doing the same), safety (the means to protect him/herself from others who would infringe on said rights), and the ability to think of him/herself (without censorship of ideas).

Anything that goes against those principles are infringing upon human dignity.

Having said all this, terminology today is confusing, that is why one must look at what is being done, not what it is called.

If anti-discrimination laws are used to censor people, that is censorship (as an example).

If free enterprise is used to infringe upon another person's homestead, then that is infringement. (e.g., GMO seeds being scattered on farmland that another person owns, who has the right not to have such seeds being scattered on his property).

All collectivist ideology MUST by definition LOWER the status of individual humans because the COLLECTIVE is placed at a HIGHER PRIORITY than individual people.

The catch is, who gets to define what the collective should comprise?
Thus, to avoid these arbitrary definitions, the idea of America is that everyone has equal chance and equal power (balance of power) to prevent abuse.

America was founded to protect individuals.

All other nations were founded to serve kings and queens. Even to this day (despite what most people believe).

When you have only ideas/ideology but no principles, it's no wonder " Liberals on the other hand are famously disorganized".  Seems like moral equivalency and ethics are the defining characteristics.  Conservatives (IMO) believe principles should guide our lives.  Liberals believe there is no right or wrong (i.e. morality) as long as everyone is treated the same (fairness).

Unfortunately, liberals as being applied in America (and the world) today are either

a) people who rally around an idea but actually lack good, practical solutions and thus create solutions that make things worse in the long run

or

b) people who have been tricked to supporting the above, by others who have deliberately obfuscated the underlying agenda for promoting said ideas

Let's take a look at how human dignity is applied in terms of poverty:

It is NOT dignified to be a beggar and get handouts from people.

It is NOT dignified to be DENIED the opportunity to build one's own livelihood the way one wants (this includes having access to education and necessary skills/tools to make one's living, before one can do so; analogy is a child is dependent until he or she grows up, you cannot expect a child to live without initial support).

It is NOT dignified to have people depend on others for services, INCLUDING SELF DEFENSE.

It is NOT dignified for people to be treated as pets, or animals, to be lorded over, or managed, or otherwise constrained.

It is NOT dignified for people to be discriminated based on various factors.

(Both today's so-called conservatives and liberals infringe in many areas, that is why we must NOT use the labels that mainstream media has told us to use; THINK and see what is the RESULT and EFFECT regardless whatever it is called).

Note that kings and queens hate the idea that peasants have weapons, because it means these peasants can then refuse to obey the royal decrees!

Maybe it would be better if we more accurately defined terms here. Heavies hinted at this when he referred to American Conservatism, as opposed to conservative in general. Similarly with liberal, liberalism, and Liberals. Liberalism as a movement or liberal as a way of interpreting or applying a law or idea.

I think there are many fair criticisms of people and groups who identify as conservative because of times when they claim to be conservative but take actions that are arguably not. There are many laws and positions that republicans have or do support which lean towards big government as opposed to away from it.

I myself have always why conservatives were not so conservative of our environment and natural resources but that is a little different than American Conservatism with regards to limited government power and retaining ideology in the US constitution.

The racial makeup of the two ideologies means little in my opinion. The argument that conservatives are racist is made but the same data sets could point towards liberals using tactics to trick voters using race as a divider.

Obenskik, you touch on a bunch of issues but with no depth. Perhaps a narrowing of focus, say pick 3 ideas of why you think conservatives aren't conservative as a topic to center on.

Nope, not me. But please refrain from trolling.

Obenskik is here on a "conservative" website, we should take this avenue to inform and enlighten instead of chase him (her?) away leaving him with nothing but a confirmation of his original (miss)understanding.

Nothing wrong with opposing views, this is neither a conservative or liberal forum.  It's a 2a forum where people, for or even against, can have civil discussions.

My views are moderate, so I'm neither, both sides have ideals that appeal to me along with things that don't.  The problems I see are people just jump on the bandwagon without thinking and put their trust in someone just for the sake of it.
