Interesting AR15 Kaboom on AR15.com

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1900824_.html

An AR15 blows up and guy sends it to the manufacturer for inspection who discovers the bullet jacket was stuck in the bore.  The lead apparently got shot out and left the jacket behind.  The next shot made it through, but the third shot couldn't make it through the obstruction so the rifle exploded.

Something to keep in mind if something doesn't seem right.  Had a malfunction at Puuloa a few months ago where the case neck broke off and got stuck in the chamber and wouldn't chamber the next round.

If a round doesn't chamber or bolt is out of battery, check it out instead of pounding the forward assist.

Do we know for sure if this is a jacketed bullet? And not a plated bullet?

I might expect this from a plated bullet but not a jacketed bullet unless this particular round the bullet was jacket defective in some way?
I hate Hillary.

Almost looks like a case neck separated and got shoved up the bore.

Plating on the bullets would be much much thinner, almost like a paint coating.  Conversely, if that is jacket material it looks awfully thick.

I too have seen case neck get stuck in the camber and forcing the next round is definitely a bad idea.

Yeah, sure looks like the transition from neck to case shoulder at the back.

Could it have been the plating or jacket of two bullets pressed together, like one caused the next to fail the same way and the 3rd time it stuck?

This is kind of scary. I wonder if a certain brand/type of ammunition should be avoided.

BCM says it's the brass copper bullet jacket in the barrel.  Maybe two bullets?  And the shooter reported there was no damage on the cases except for the blowout.  It's Federal .223 black box ammo.  Could be a defect in the bullet jacket causing it to separate and blow out the core.  Or maybe there was no lead and just a hollow jacket?

then that's the problem right there. Brass is not a good gilding material like copper

Read through the original post an follow-up.  At least as much as I could and then I remembered by I stopped visiting there. . .

Anyways, it's not like he noticed something was up and just attempted to "power on" and then kaboom.  Seems like he did a reasonable amount of checking things out.  I'll have to go back to the original post when I have more time and read closer, but if after all those checks and the round chambered fine, then I wouldn't have thought anything was up.

Glad that he was fine and seems like BCM and Aimpoint are helping him out.  I tired to weed through and see exactly what happened to the T-1, but gave up after scrolling through pages of jackassery.
