Got this from Hickok's fb page
A few years old but still an informative study of shooting statistics
Idk if it can conclusively recommend one over another

I'll have to go back and read closely when I have more time, but until then. . .

Quote
Head shots = 75% immediate incapacitation

Kinda interested in what happened in the other 25%.   :o ???

Mostly joking.  I know there are instances where people get shot in the head and survive, like Gabby Gifford, but damn.

i realize that this is only tangentially related, but i was recently having a discussion regarding the hearing damage that could happen to a homeowner in defending a house with a firearm.

I didn't realize that a 9mm fired from a pistol produced significantly greater sound pressure levels than a 45 Auto pistol and even an 18" barreled rifle in .223

Can any one verify these numbers, and does anyone know the SPL statistics for a pistol caliber carbine in 9mm and 45 Auto?

I wonder what type of 9mm ammo they tested?  I choose to use 147grn standard pressure.  It is subsonic and noticeably less noisy than the typical 115 or 124 grain supersonic loads.

Choosing what projectile for 147 is key though, especially in shorter 9mm barrels.  Through research I like the Winchester Defend hollow points.
