I won't vote for Chang who in my opinion is just a ladder climber and don't care for his constituents.  When he was my councilman, I e-mailed him about a issue and he/his office never replied even to say we'll look into it.  Once I e-mailed Djou and got a reply the next day and his office helped me get the answer to the issue.
Chang or probably his handlers are spending buku bucks on mailers, getting them almost twice  week.  To me something wrong when a young guy wants to be a professional politician instead of working a job.  I told my neighbors about him and they won't vote for him either.
Chang is a F- in 2A rights.

Absolutely correct.

I even met the guy once, years back. I was extremely unimpressed and he seemed extremely pretentious.

It appeared to me at the time, because he lacked real world experience, he could not even hold a conversation of any substance with "normal" people, nor did he seem particularly interested in them anyway.

I remember thinking at that moment, So this is what they are like when they first start out.

It takes a whole special mentality to actually aspire as a young person to being a professional politician.

Chang Raises and Spends 3x more than Slom in this election
http://www.civilbeat.org/2016/11/chang-raises-spends-3-times-more-than-slom-in-senate-race/

The article also mentions some other names such as Karl Rhoads, etc. Pro-2A candidates are getting outspent in other races as well. The article mentions some names of local people who contribute to the legislators.

Plus, I didn't realize CivilBeat is now a free (as in beer) news website.

Probably the paid model did not work well in today's world.

However, remember that freedom of the press goes to those who own one.

Looks like we are going to have a single party senate.  No minority party?

Very very sad for Hawaii. With Sam Slom gone we now have a single party Senate. No representation in local government, how about that????

Hope the national movement of dissatisfaction comes to Hawaii politics.

Slom was probably a victim of the media war on Trump. I've been overhearing many people who drank too much of the Democratic Kool aid insist that Trump is going to start up the internment camps again, and that fear seems to have spread over anyone associated with the GOP. It is really sad that the gadfly got replaced by just another brown noser, but the GOP just doesn't represent Hawaii's values that well and the Dems have most people fooled.
The problem governments are trying to solve is the existence of your freedom.

As much as I hate to see Slom go, I think it's a good time for him to take a break.  He had a quadruple bypass surgery this year and is getting a bit senior in his years.  He's a hard worker and sometimes it's difficult to say no, and maybe this will be a blessing for him and his family in the long run.  It's time for us younger guys to step up to the plate.

Apparently the final financial contributions reports haven't been filed yet (the above are through October 24). I see the cops (union/"SHOPO") supported Chang with the maximum donation (they don't want anyone defending themselves; bad for their budget). I also note the conspicuous absence of one single cent of donations to Slom by HRA, NRA, SAF, GOA, etc. (perhaps they donated in a prior reporting period, but it's not in the only listed prior report, the one for the primary election). If anyone has any "hard data" on how much money any of the "Second Amendment rights" organizations contributed to the only "hard core" Second Amendment defender in the entire Hawaii state legislature (now gone), please post it. Ridiculous.   >:(
