send ammo to big island via hawaiian air cargo
« on: November 14, 2016, 01:12:47 PM »
is it possible to air cargo some ammo to the big island?

I want to send some hand loads to my nephew on the big island for Christmas
better than knitting him a sweater.
can I sent it air cargo?
or is there another way to send it that's cheap and quick?

Ask friends and family to take on the plane.

aloha air cargo will not do it

Hawaiian air cargo will. but there's a big fee to send ammo.

I guess I'm knitting him a sweater.  unless someone has another idea.
none of my family or friends are going there before Christmas.
there goes that idea.   :(

Ammo is an awesome Christmas present!

Edit: Doh, posted my reply before seeing your followup.  Hopefully you can find a solution to send to BI.

There is no longer the ORM-D classification for hazmat items like small arms ammunition under certain quantities.  To comply with international guidelines the "limited quantity" classification has been adopted for small arms ammunition 66lbs or less.  This is associated with the black and white diamond label, so there are no special hazmat certifications or forms to fill out.

Young Brothers will take up to 66lbs in one package as a standard "limited quantity" hazmat item with the black and white diamond label(s).  There are requirements that the ammo be individually packaged divided by cardboard to protect primers, ie in factory trays and box.  In other words, no loose or bulk ammo in a bag stuffed in a box. This is by land or sea shipment.  Air Cargo quantity can be regulated by the carrier.

One thing to remember with air cargo. You must be a known shipper.

Just as a point of curiosity... what about transportation on private vehicles? If, for example, you had a friend with a boat who was looking to make a neighbor island run anyway. Or, for another example, you had a friend who was getting their pilot's license, and needed to rack up hours? I know in the latter case they can take passengers, but are forbidden from charging more than 1/2 the cost of the fuel.

The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

i remember seeing on their website that they ship to neighbor islands.
i'll stop by their shop and ask more details.

i know my reloads are nothing that special, but i thought  it would be a nice gift for another shooter in my family.
being that i took the time to make it myself adds some personal touch to the gift of ammo
earlier this year i gave my nephew my GP100 with custom grips.  I love that gun.
good thing i had 2 of them, so i could spare 1.  ;)
reloaded 357 ammo would be a nice touch to go with the revolver.  i was going to make some with LSWC and some with hornady JHP

i'll see what OGC has to say....  thanks, macsak.   :shaka:

Yes, 11lbs. By Hawaiian Airlines Cargo and/or as checked baggage. For both, the minimum weights apply.

And is it going to Hilo or Kona?
Kekoa, I think you meant to say 11 lbs is the maximum, not minimum weight. LOL.

Just saying…I work for Hawaiian and know the carriage of goods requirements. Just trying to help a brother out but whatevers. I was meaning exactly what you are implying so you have me as confused as you are :shake:

LOL back at you son

edit: Ok my bad I see it now. Yes maximum weights. Would be nice if that was minimum though.
