looking for a nice, not too expensive, reliable scope for my 700p...any suggestions?

my friend has a Barska 6-24x44 SWAT Extreme Tactical Riflescope w/ Illuminated Reticle that he might be willing to sell but i wanted to see what everyone likes and/or uses and their opinions...thanks!!! 

At the semi low end I like Nikons I think they are one of the best for the money out there. There are others but this is my preference. You can get them pretty cheap from a sale ( I think Natchez or Midway has a Nikon sale right now) or usually for a good price off of eBay.

+1 on Nikon (Monarch) for the money.

This is based on the scopes on the cheaper side.

Got a Konus 7259 Riflescope 6x-24x44mm on my AR target rifle. It is very clear even at 24x for a $150 its hard to beat.
The Konus is good because it is inbetween a 40 and 50mm objective.
I just got my $129 Tasco 10-40x50 to put on my LR-308 But I havent used it yet. As expected at full zoom little dark and grainy.

X-ring got some good Simmons scopes in at resonable prices.

But it is hard to beat Redfield, Nikon, Leupold & other high $$ scopes.

I all about Leupold or Zeiss.   

I know they cost a little bit more, but thats just what I grew up shooting and never an issue.

If you are going to shoot at anything further than 100 yards get a Nightforce.  Or

Unfortunately, for me they cost  a lot more.    But with that said I have a Leupold on my Remington 700 and it is an awesome scope! It is a VX-3. Got it on a clearance sale from Cabelas. I paid almost as much for it as I did my rifle. If your budget can handle a Leupold you can still find VX-1 and VX-2 models out there. They also have tactical scopes if you are looking for that type. I see sales on them constantly.

Otherwise if your budget cannot afford a Leupold I would look seriously at the Nikons.

Yeah not too sure on the budget yet...if I don't go to Vegas then I'll have some money to spend but if I do then the budget might look like $400-$600...

Another vote for Nikon here.  Hard to beat the quality for the price.  If you take your time, they do go on sale.

You are definitely in the Leupold range with your budget. You will not regret it. The better the optics, the more enjoyable the shooting I found.

can anyone give me some insight on a Leupold Golden Ring Ultimate Slam 3-9x40 Riflescope, Black, SAbot Ballistics Reticle?

Everything I've read says DO NOT go for dark ops. I think they are made in China with nice features but they don't hold up and the customer service is crappy. Again, just what I read, but I would go Leupold over Dark Ops any day.

It looks like that Ultimate Slam is actually a muzzleloader scope. You may want to look at the VX-II or VX-3 line for rifle scopes. From what I can tell, the Ultimate Slam should be equal in quality to the VX-II.
