Officer Testified Against Chief Kealoha on Day of Crash

HNN: …the officer is a witness in the federal grand jury case against the Honolulu police chief and his wife, a deputy city prosecutor.

Chief Louis Kealoha and his wife, Katherine, are being investigated by the FBI for alleged public corruption.

The officer went to testify against the chief on the day of the crash, sources said.

That fact has many saying that the HPD should appoint an outside agency to take over the crash investigation....

(Handy Idea: After you sign federal immunity deal to tell what you know about the Chief, arrange an accident and a bs story so the reliability of your testimony can be discredited by the Chief's attorneys.  That way you can uphold the letter of your agreement with the Feds while avoiding infliction of any real damage on the Chief.  It's a win-win!  Of course were not suggesting that is what happened in this case....)

"When responding police officers arrived, the sergeant got out of the passenger side of the SUV and told them that he was not driving because he fell asleep.

He said he didn't know who was driving but no one else was there."

Is this a good example to the rest of us citizens?
In case of accident:
  • crawl into passenger seat
  • forget about who was driving
  • deny everything

any attorneys in the house?

It's a smart move.  Prosecutor has to prove that he was driving the car for a DUI charge, which will be more challenging since there are no witnesses.  Might be enough doubt raised to get him off criminally.

In this day of "depends what is is", "not even a smidgen of corruption", "it's not my red line, it's the worlds", "I did not send or receive classified information", "I did not send or receive material marked classified at the time", why not this I was asleep and don't know who was controlling my HPD subsidized  vehicle.  A vehicle probably containing LE equipment, identification and weaponry.

A cop friend of mine said it's like when people are in a car and they get pulled over for questionable driving...obviously driver may be drunk...

He says he's seen a group of people all jump out the car at once and run in a couple circles and no one claims to be the driver.

I said, Holy Batman - that's smart! Well, I'm sure it can't be that smart but at least it creates that headache for the officer who has to prove who was driving etc.

Airbags and the control module could help.  Usually logs last 5 seconds prior to activation of the bags.  Occupant detection along with the status of the seat belts would help.  If seat belts fired and are tightly locked up on the pillar no one was wearing the belt.  If 2 people were wearing belts though they'd be locked in an extended position.

Or a random kind stranger at the place where he was consuming alcoholic beverages offered to drive him home so he could avoid a DUI.  But the stranger did not disclose he had narcolepsy.  And on the way home suffered an episode.  Embarrassed that instead of helping they made things worse they ran away after the crash.  ???
