Permitless/"Constitutional" Carry: Current State Status
« on: December 11, 2016, 03:22:26 PM »
I try not to read this stuff about all the states that either have permitless carry already or have bills in the state legislature that are seriously considering it. It's too depressing and infuriating to compare (how can I not?) to our situation in Hawaii where not one single "ordinary person" is legally allowed to exercise their constitutionally-guaranteed right to bear arms outside their home for self-defense. It somehow seems "impossible" that this place could be this different (and still be part of the United States).

The map is pretty much self explanatory (look at it and weep) except for the "CC Target States" which means that there are serious, organized political movements in those states to introduce "constitutional carry" legislation and get it through the legislature, which is a distinct possibility given the makeup of the legislature and the likelihood that the governors would sign such bills.

The "untargeted" white states are "hopeless cases" of 1. legislatures with "progressive" majorities (which would mostly ban civilian firearm ownership if they could... sound familiar?), and/or 2. progressive governors who have previously vetoed and/or would likely veto a permitless carry law passed by the legislature. Note that those white states nearly perfectly match those states who will give their electoral college votes to Hillary Clinton. One exception is Montana, which has "shall issue" CCW and open carry outside of most cites and towns. The governor there vetoed the permitless carry bill passed by the legislature and he was just re-elected, so the state is considered "hopeless" pending a change of governor or a super-majority of pro-permitless carry legislators being elected in 2018 to override the governors veto.

Wait... Nevada is a "hopeless" state? Isn't everyone here gaga about getting the Nevada permit because of its ease of acquisition and high reciprocity rate? And Washington state? I know people who live in Washington and carry.
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

Well you can open carry in Nevada with no permit.  My friend sent me a pic of a guy on a motorcycle with a AR slung last week.

No firearm registration either.  So when I bring my pistol, no need to let anyone know.

Nevada just passed (barely 50.4% to 49.6%), thanks to Bloomberg spending millions and millions ($19.7 million) of dollars (The governor, state attorney general and 16 of the state’s 17 county sheriffs opposed the measure), a "universal background check" law. Which is really a "transfer" law requiring almost anyone selling, lending (even temporarily) or otherwise handing a firearm to anyone else to undergo background checks both in the initial transfer and when it is returned to the owner in the case of lending. If you look at the map of how Nevada counties voted, every single county in Nevada voted against the law, except for Clark county (Las Vegas). We all know who moves to Vegas. As with Colorado and Montana, the "progressive" immigrants have turned, and are continuing to turn, traditionally red states even further purple, if not outright blue eventually.

Yes, you only need a permit to cc in Nevada and no permit for open carry.  The instructor at Front Sight strongly discouraged open carrying in North Las Vegas, Henderson and the Strip.  He said LEOs WILL give you a hard time if you open carry in those areas.
