No, the Democrats are all for "liberty and freedom" when it comes to end-of-life health care decisions, personal use of recreational psychotropic substances, abortions, etc. The typical Republican claims that some "higher power" and/or their moral values derived from some supposed knowledge of some "higher power" must have the state dictate these decisions (aka "prohibitions") for the unwashed masses of little people. Prison for Pot! Thus the rise in popularity and numbers of libertarians and independents who find the liberty restrictions of both major parties, called the UniParty by some, to be far too authoritarian and dictatorial in their statist impositions on personal freedom.

Anyone who has witnessed a loved one die a lingering painful and/or drugged-out death where the person has asked for/begged for a peaceful painless end to their suffering finds little solace (and possibly a great deal of anger) in someone denying their loved one their "right" to make that decision for themselves by the claim that "God meant for it to be this way" or some other idiotic superstitious bullshit.

I have found that the "Official Position" of the Democrat Party on Euthanasia is no official position. At least from my observations they have been quiet on this topic. Not saying that individuals or certain groups are not taking a stand.

I am probably wrong but that is what I thought was correct in the past.

There was no official position in the Democratic Party Platform addressing the issue, however both Clinton and Sanders favor the option of "Physician Assisted Suicide" (PAS), in Clinton's case a thinly veiled approval as a "states rights" issue, and Sanders outrightly. On the Republican side you had only opposition or no statements at all, with the exception of Ben Carson (who, as a brain surgeon has seen many terminal cases) who stated "We should never be too quick to judge others without spending some time in their shoes." The Republican Platform calls for criminalizing PAS and Bush, Fiorina, and Huckabee directly support that position, while most of the rest made indirect statements opposing PAS.

Various polls show that over 50% of both self-identified Democrats and Republicans support PAS, and that in Hawaii the number is 82%. Not to imply that majority rule ought to have any impact on rights or individual liberty.

I'll end with a Hendrix lyric: "I'm the one that's got to die when it's time for me to die, so let me live my life the way I want to."

I was only aware of the "Official Party Position". I was not aware of Hillary and Bernie's positions. This is one of those subjects I disagree with the Republican Party position. So I swing left on this one. Another reason we need a viable 3rd party candidate IMHO.

The ultimate plan is to pave the way to legalized elderly termination, which would solve a lot of problems for the super socialized state, such as no need for pensions, retirement plans, and much reduced health care demand.

I know many will say this is crazy talk, but I also know many will know what I am talking about.

Maybe they will eventually set the age of 75 as the terminal age, and then reduce it to 65 or 55 over a few decades.

Bill Gates has himself already clarified on this in interviews (posing the rhetorical question whether it is more cost-effective to keep grandma alive, or use the money towards other aspects).

Of course, if you have "high level connections" I'm sure there will be special waivers for this future democratic communist law.

To make sure this works, you must of course ensure you have control over the medical system so that nobody receives unauthorized medical aid (especially pain killer medication).

I agree with passivekinetic.  Karl Rhoads' support for this bill is not a big surprise...

The D Party (Party of Death) is all about population control -- pro abortion to control the number of children being born and pro-euthanasia to control how long people live.  Since people's healthcare is in control through Obamacare, it won't be long before death panels start determining how long people are allowed to stay alive.

Uh, the whole point would not be to get government MORE involved in personal end-of-life decisions, but to NOT HAVE THE GOVERNMENT INVOLVED AT ALL... you know, like how they shouldn't be involved in what capacity magazine a person has for their firearm or whether a law-abiding citizen may carry a firearm outside his/her home for self-defense. The idea is that the government would have no power to criminalize personal choices (nor those who have the training and ability to help them fulfill their choices), such as PAS, where no other person is harmed, that is, there is no victim so there can be no "crime". It is the "decriminalization" of what is currently a "victimless crime".There is no legitimate comparison between an individual, of their own free will choosing assistance in death, and the government mandating that certain people be put to death without their consent... they are exact opposites. While I have not seen the Rhoads bill, I seriously doubt it has any provisions for the latter.

It's not mandating in an obvious way.

It's making sure that elderly suffer so much (physically, mentally, financially) that they will willingly agree to be suicided.

The important roadblock to be removed is to make sure that such a "decision" is legalized.

This is for those who are open minded and want to be better prepared for the future.

Check the section regarding the elderly and health care (also insurance). You will then understand the reason for Obamacare.

(If you don't believe this stuff, just ignore it. No problem).
