I got to J Hara about an hour after they sold out of the good stuff. According to the store staff the popular fire works were gone within 45 minutes.
No fire works bought at J Hara but I did find some good odds and ends. BTW they still have CCI std. velocity 22 ammo. I think it was 2.99 per 50.

I used a permit at Longs to buy 5k (pricey) of big kahuna. I had to stop off at Waimalu city mill to buy some paint. No fire works for sale there.

I used up my last 2 permits at Don Q Pearl City. They still had a good selection left at noon today. 

Did any body else buy fire works today?   

Went don q today @ 230pm after I finished work.  They had 3 25ks left (all red).  I grabbed 2 and the 3rd got picked up right after i decided to just get the 2.  They have a ton of 10ks, 4ks, and throw packs left in both all red and double luck.  They have a stock of big kahuna 5ks "in the back" just gotta ask. 

My Wife went to J Hara becasue i had to work, They took care of her as i knew they would. Great service as always.

I called j hara after I got off work they were already sold out lol.  Next year I'll make sure i work the night shift so I can camp out in the morning

None. I asked the clerk at City Mill with my permit in hand about those ones that fly in the air and she just laughed. 

When I was a kid all the small stores used to sell fireworks.  I remember the different rockets, cherry bombs, silver bombs, whistling bombs and repeating bombs (a small one goes off first then the big one), colorful crackerballs, roman candles and Duck Brand firecrackers we called checker bombs.  Also had the cheaper red devil firecrackers, the ones with the very fast fuses,  These fast fuses gave us fast reflexes after enough blew in our hands.  Don't remember having any mortar shells though.  Those were the days and we didn't need no stinking permits.

I grew up on Maui where firecrackers are illegal.
So when I was about 13 yrs old I came to Honolulu to visit the relatives.
I went to Holiday Mart aka Don Quixote and bought a bunch of firecrackers and took them back in my suitcase.
Then I went to school and sold them to the boys at black market prices.
Made a TON of money!

We learned quick not to blow up dog kaka with Red devil brand with the fast fuses; can't run fast enough to escape the shrapnel.
Checker bombs were loud compared to what we have today.  Used to come in red, orange, yellow and green heavy paper wrapping. 
Had one brand that had little bombs woven in the strand at different intervals, not sure which.

I remember some of the Duck brand packages had a picture of company founder Mr. Tang. I am grateful Mr. Tang made such a fun product possible. In a way he reminds me of being like the Kalashnikov of fire crackers from the days of my youth. 

JHara here has been a constant packed tent since Xmas.

Anybody bought the Duck Brand firecrackers this New Years?  How much for 10K and 20K and who was the store or vendor?
I bought my usual Double Luck brand but was somewhat disappointed this time.   The bombs are getting smaller.  Before they used to be the size of a Diner's or Grace's burger bun, now they're like the size of a McD's  breakfast biscuit.  Could hardly tell when they went off.   Although almost all popped, it went real fast.   Good thing about Double Lucks are they don't fall apart since it's wrapped in a red cellophane paper, but now I'm questioning if it's worth getting up at 0400 to stand in line at DQ next year.
I'm planning to buy Duck Brand next year and sleep late day after Christmas.  Happy New Year!

For next new year or July 4th, saw a new non-pyrotechnic aerial advertised that can go up to 150'.   Think I'll get some before it's banned in HI for possibly interfering with LE spy drones etc.  Not bad and still legal, maybe can attach a whistle or sound deivce to jazz it up.
